GS5 THRESHOLD QUESTION

pastyman

New member
Hi guys, I bought a used gs5 earlier this week, i've been out twice on the beach with varying results, the one thing that doesn't seem to be right is the threshold.
With my Sov GT the threshold can be as quiet or as loud as you like, as should the GS5, but as soon as i turn the machine on , the threshold is more or less the same no matter how far clockwise or anticlockwise you adjust it.
I set the volume to half way ( as suggested in the manual )but can't get the threshold down to a comfortable level. Do you think there could be a problem with the unit? with not using or seeing one before, i have nothing to compare it to.
Help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Darrin

Don't expect the threshold to sound, or act like the Sov GT. Two different animals.

I'm not certain what you mean by "threshold to a comfortable level". You should be able to adjust from no threshold audio, to loud threshold audio. Is this a new unit were talking about, or a used one ??

It's not unusual for a PI detector to have a rough threshold. It could be caused by many things, most not anything to do with the unit.

First:
Where are you using it ? What country ?

Second: what were your settings ?
Were you in straight PI or in GB/ID mode ?

Third:
Settings like the pulse delay, range control, frequency control need to be set up for the place your hunting at. This is usually a different setting each time of use.

For example, running at 10uS. may be a too fast of a Pulse Delay for the ground your hunting. Try it set back a couple of marks.

If your in the US, phone me up. Perhaps we can help you over the phone ???

Hi,

I'm in the UK, and was down on the beach, all settings correct, straight PI, 10-15 us pd, range approx 3 o'clock, volume approx mid way.

What I mean is that the threshold is at a quite high level as soon as you turn the machine on, and the further you turn the pot doesn't seem to make that much difference to the level. As to make it comfortable in the headphones i can turn the volume down to almost 7 o'clock and still have a strong threshold.

I bought the unit second hand, it's in A1 condition physically.

I don't have any contact details for Eric, maybe someone would be good enough to pass them on to me.

Many thanks

Darrin
