Ground numbers?

This is the first detector that gives me ground numbers and FE readout. Does the higher the number mean the less or more minerals in the ground? On my FE bars I am getting an average of 1 bar which surprised the heck out of me as this part of Ga has a lot of reddish orange clay. I thought clay was highly mineralized and I would get more bars. I guess where I detect there is enuf topsoil to negate the clay. The 2 places I have tried I have got about 69 to 74 ground numbers. I fast grab in AT but after doing it it seems like the GB error is showing too positive when I swing. Maybe it is because when swinging it is now picking up targets. I do have trouble finding clear ground in AT to balance.

So far I like the Omega. I love the smoothness of the sound and am still playing with tones. I have hearing loss and have trouble with low tones.

I detected in town yesterday in the park on my lunch hour. I could not get the sensitivity above 50 because all the electricity is underground but still found .27

thank you,

in my area, the #'s range from about 69 to 75 in most locations with 1 bar showing on the fe304... One thing you may want to try when GB ing, instead of using the AT mode, just lower your disc down to about 10, scan the ground for metal, non there.. hit your gb button and see what you get then.... I could run my sens up to 65-68 and it's pretty stable...

Look in the manual it has a section that explains the GB Numbers..Tells you rare GB etc.on certain settings...............Yes higher numbers is lower ground..remember if you go to SW Beach You must Manual GB the T2.....

Thank you Mark and Elton...I reckon my ground around here is not as bad as I thought it would be.

I am finding the 3 tone is working best for me so far. I actually like the iron bass tone and hear it well. The Omega has enuf volume. It is sweet sounding. I tried my front yard that has been gone over with my other detectors and was able to get the sensitivity to 80. I got a 1 cent to dime signal at 4" and it was exactually at 4". Oh it was a 1977 penny. I got 5 pulltabs in the nickel range and they were all the same type as the manual said that could ID as nickels. I got a zinc that said zinc. The weirdest thing was a flintwheel from a bic lighter at 3". I was surprised to find something that small. I think it fooled the ID because they are high carbon steel. I did pass on the iron signals and will try the iron ID at another time.

Since your ground is very similiar to mine ( but I can't say this will happen for certain ).. readings of 57-58-59 usually will NOT produce a nickle dug..( usually bits of foil are found with these #'s ). go up the scale a bit more to 60-61- as high as 65 and nickles will still pop from the ground... can't explain it, ( don't THINK IT SHOULD HAPPEN.. but it does )... just one of those manufacturing fo-pas of the company..

If you want to e-mail me I'll pass along more insight to what i've encountered..
