ground grab

i have an older e-series mxt , can someone explain the ground grab feature in relation to actual ground balance and tracking thanks jim

When the 'trac' switch in in the LOCK position, the MXT is still tracking the ground phase in the background even though it is not updating the GB due to being LOCKED. Whenever you feel like the ground phase has changed due to you physically moving to a different area, you can touch 'ground grab' to instantly update to the new ground phase. Ground Grab is primarily used when you have the trac LOCKED.

However, you can also use the Ground Grab button while in the GROUND or SALT setting as well. Normally, GROUND & SALT will constantly update the GB as needed but since faint targets can and will fade out as you sweep over them multiple times(due to the faint target resembling minerals in the ground), you can HOLD THE GROUND GRAB BUTTON while you sweep a target and that will temporarily LOCK the GB while you sweep the target. It is basically a reverse of the constantly updating feature in that scenario, allowing you to sweep without GB drift.

The first MXT that came out didn,t have ground grab. You can lock the ground, after you start with the MXT it auto ground balances after two or three sweeps. then you can put in lock, and if you think you need to reground just flip to ground and back.
