Ground Compensation or Tracking

"Ground Compensation" is what Minelab calls it in their manual, others call it ground tracking. I only saw a vague reference in the Manual. It is said to use "advanced Digital Filtering", chapter 7 specs.!? can someone please tell me how good the Explorer ground tracks or compensates..I believe this is different from Noise cancelation. I do not see any references in literature or brochures about this feature and would like to know since I will be hunting in highly mineralized areas at times?? Also, is this feature automated or manual or both?
Thanks

Noise Cancel is for handling electronic noise, such as power lines or even sun spots.
Ground tracking is automatic and, as far as I know, can not be altered or disabled.
As for how good it is, I can't say. If you are getting a threshold tone, chances are the GB is working fine.

Tim is right re noise cancelling versus ground tracking.
Based on my experience with other detectotrs I've found the Sov/Explorer automatic ground tracking to be excellent and is one of the features that make these detectors a pleasure to operate.
Compared to manual ground balancing (which can be required often in some sites) or preset factory ground balancing (which is not always optimum)... automatic tracking can be a real blessing. It's no fun to be walking along and manually ground balancing every few feet 8^P. The Minelabs version seems to work very well from what I have experienced and I have really enjoyed it on my Sov and Explorer.

..."It's no fun to be walking along and manually ground balancing every few feet 8^P." I had an old "green machine" that I literally had to GB every few steps when moving closer to the ocean. I almost threw it in the water, but realized that I could make do by hunting parallel to the ocean. I still had to GB way more often than I liked.
