when ground balancing the xt50 must you have good hearing.at my last hearing test it was found that my hearing broke down at 20,000 ohms.this seems to upset gb the xt50 when i turn on the detector to gb it all i hear is a dull buuur and then it's bur up and bur down no matter what numerical setting i have it on.there is no high tone or low tone just a .buur break buur is that ground balanced.i have a vaquero that is a piece of cake to ground balance .this machine appears to be a waste of money . can i just use the factory preset gb and use it like a turn on and go or must gb the bl--dy thing every time i want to use it.i like the tid mode and how deep it could be, but i can sell it and go back to old reliable.is there an l.e.d.light system that could be put in line that would help hearing impaired people to ground balance as a visual aide. i hear the target responces okay.just a thought blowfly hh

I would say to bur up until you hear something different then note the number. Then bur down until you hear something different. Then note that number. Then set your GB right in the middle. Sounds like you just can't hear that particular tone on the Xterra. I wouldn't sell it just for that. If nothing else just use the factory GB default. There is a LED light for speaker response for the hearing impaired. But you won 't be able to (see) the tone.

bill ,i use killer b 11"optima"with individual volume controls. khouse you said note the number as you bur up and the number as you bur down i haven't seen any numbers changing as i gb unless i'm pushing the buttons do the numbers actually change by them selves when you gb or are we talking about the depth arrows on the side of the control box .but i'll go and try that .blowfly

i just went down stairs and tried something . when i received this detector from the shop it showed the ground balance at 0. the manual doesn't say at which end of the scale you turn on at.i set the detector at 20 and heard a steady hum ,i then reduced this number all the way back down the scale until i could barely hear the signal both ways. this is my understanding on how to ground balance this machine. if i'm wrong try to let me down gently, please?by the way if your interested i live in a high set queenslander"house".i may have solved my own problem."i hope!" blowfly hh

Yes, as you push the + or - buttons the numbers will change. They don't change on it's own. http://www.minelab.com/consumer/files/manuals/man_9.pdf
