Ground balancing question.

Is it true that if ground conditions are right, that you can increase the detecting depth of a detector by increasing or decreasing the ground balance setting of the detector? Anyone care to explaine this?
I live in an area that has low mineralization and was wondering if I could use this adjustment.

Thanks.

It's always been an idea to set your ground balance a touch positive. Seems to give a little more depth that way.

Towards 10 is positive. I reckon up one point after you've ground balanced. I don't know what other users say, but that works for me.

Hi Kurt,

I does not hurt to set the GB just slightly positive when bobbing the coil. In some types of low mineral ground it can be hard to get a proper GB on the CZ's using the bobbing method. I have hunted areas where that with the GB control on the 70 turned all the way clockwise it is still not possible to get a positive response when bobbing. Now THATS low mineral ground! Most poeple prefer the bobbing method to get a spot on GB however, in low mineral ground I have found that using the pinpoint method described in the manual is the easiest and most accurate way to get a proper GB setting. If you want to turn the control back just a bit more than the manual describes for that method that is fine, but I doubt it would add much depth in true low mineral soils. JMHO
