GROUND BALANCE

OLD FART

New member
Does the ground balance in the all metal mode carry over to the disc side when you switch from all metal to disc, or is the disc ground balance preset? This is on the new outlaw. Senior moment!!!!!!!!!

First I like your name , pretty cool, from what I've read it does carry to the disc mode, hank

Thanks, sounds like a great detector. Lower freq so should disc very well and have some depth.

Can anyone recommend some good reading on the impact of frequency on detectors?
There seems to be a lot of contradictory information out there as it relates to depth, discrimination, ground balance capability, etc..

I don't have a book to recommend but the lower the frequency the deeper and larger targets can be found and the higher the frequency the smaller targets can be found. All metal is always deepest with any frequency and the higher the discrimination the more you lose depth capabilities. Ground balance is definitely a deciding factor and every so often I stop and recheck the balance. ( manual balance ) Swing speed is also a factor ...my Tejon seems to work best with a moderate to fast swing verses a slow swing. Air testing will reveal what swing speed seems best for your particular machine as well as for checking how discrimination affects depth.

Hope that helps some, and good luck.

Charlie.
Thanks for that concise summary of depth and target size.
If you were looking for your first Tesoro, would it be a Tejon?

There are many great Tesoro detectors both old and new and only owning one makes me no expert. If you are somewhat experienced with other detectors then that makes it easier to get the hang of the Tejon. That being said when I decided to buy my first detector the Tejon was my choice because of the wonderful reviews and the outstanding lifetime warranty. I have no regrets but it was confusing at first and a bit frustrating to learn. If you only want to look for coins then perhaps a different model will do well for you. If you decide to try a Tejon and the ground you hunt is not highly mineralised then I would definitely buy a 5.75 concentric too. I bought a 5.75 widescan and really have done well with it but I should have researched it more and gone with the concentric. The concentric 5.75 will be my next purchase.

Hope that helps but also see if any of the other guys on the forum with experience on other Tesoros as well as the Tejon can help with your decision.

Best of luck.

Charlie you made a very good choice on that detector for sure.I just bought one last month because i had one some years back .I have never utilized the duel disc. But when hunting with it i did notice it to be just fine for coin shooting as you have found out.The 5.75 concentric is a great combo. And what is so nice about the tejon while coin hunting is has an appetit for gold. You think coins are coming in good, air test a gold ring and you will see what i mean.
