Ground Balance

I have read that to find clean ground you need to find an area where when you pull the pin poit trigger and the ground reads O that is really hard for me sometimes I find I get nothing on the screen no numbers is that OK to GB on..or most of the time I will get 6.5 or higher what do you guys do and what number do you feel is safe to GB on?

You can add me to that list Lowboy. I don't get to see that Zero. I've made the mistake of ground balancing in ground that wasn't clear of iron and it took me a few days to realize what my problem was caused by. I think in the ground balance video that the trigger is pulled while the coil is on the ground and then moved to find a clear area. Not to be confused with pulling the trigger in the air and then moving it to a clear area of ground to get an idea of the mineralization level. The problem with the first method is what happens if you pulled the trigger while overs some iron to begin with? I think that is what I must have done. I'm looking forward to what people have to say here as well...

Is GB critcal on the get go with the V3i..... I'm just learning..so your answer would be appreciated by me Sir.
Thanks

Right or wrong, I don't pay any attention to what is on the depth meter, I pump the coil over a spot that is trash free until the threshold evens out and I go huntin.

OK I can try that I would say as long as you don't get a target sound you GB...but sometimes I find a clean area and can't get an even GB it could be because of masking targets that are being masked and so the ground seems clean but it is not and of course I move to an area where I can pump the coil and get the machine to give an even tone as the coil pumps up or down...You are all great on this forum I am even getting enough info so I can try and help others..

IMHO it is important especially if you hunt in Locktrac.

So far I've found a couple of huge important points with the V3i. First, if your GB is off your depth will suffer and the machine will false more than you can believe. GB'ing the V3i perfectly is incredibly important (more so than any detector I've had - probably because of it's

Wow the V3i is like owning a hot rod you have to tune it before each race...but hey if you pay the cash we paid why not take advantage of the machine? Would be cool to have a book to understand more I am not one that likes to tweak too much and I am one that knows when the machine is running right you don't need to change anything but maybe get more depth or a bit less...

I hope there is a book just around winter time, that would be perfect timing and make for good reading. Any one heard anything more about that? I know someone (Jeff Foster?) has been working on one for a good 2 years now!
