It could cause massive earthquakes in China and Japan
Depends on your ground mineralization. The way I understand it if you weren't balanced properly then you could be detecting the minerals in the ground under your coil instead of metal.
The effect would probably be loss of depth and a lot of falsing in hot ground.
You might lose some depth, you might gain some depth and your discrimination might be off a tad.

Hi, I'm glad you asked that question I was just talking with the Garrett Team...They advised me that the AT Pro could over heat and blow a piston or throw a rod uke: if the ground balance is off.... Of course I'm kidding if the ground balance is off it has a tendency to give more false signals..........JJ
Nerolobo you just won't get maximum performance from the AT. But if you keep running it without GBing it will probably cause much frustration to you and you will probably develop a brainfart. You don't want one of those. They are nasty and messy.
JJ have you been drinking the AT Pro motor oil Garrett just put out? It goes in the AT Pro carburetor.
Nerolobo if you listen to QH you will be visiting many strange places no human has gone before.
Stick with some one like John he will give you the straight scoop but don't try to match him because it will drive you crazy trying to figure out how he gets so many coins each year.

Drink a shot every hour on the hour and you will never get a cold. And all problems just seem to never touch you and if they do your too mum to feel them.
Thanks folks. I am new at the hobby and new with the ATPro. I appreciate the good words. A change of topic- why does Quarter Horse's picture look like a half horse?
I've hunted with it not balanced quite a few times and have done well with it.( by accident )
Half way through the hunt I ground balance it when I remember and the difference
in the numbers are not to far off.
I'd almost believe that the AT PRO had auto trac balance installed in it.
But do you have to ground balance every time you go out? I don't since I figure all the dirt in my local area is the same. I GB'ed the first once or twice after I got the AT Pro 3 weeks ago but thats it. When I have occasonnaly tried ground balancing there wasn't a loud tone to begin with. Am I missing something here?
JC every site that I have been at has a different GB number. Even just moving a good distance the ground conditions change. Some times not much but at times the change is a good bit. When on the beach ground conditions can change quickly.
I ground balance when I haven't GBed in awhile or when I have moved some distance. Maybe I GB more than I need to but it is so easy why not have your detector GBed when your out there detecting. Happy Trails...Z
when I turn my machine on now the GB is the same as the time before, around 80, if I'm hunting dirt, I just start hunting, after a few minutes I will check if it is around 80
