Ground balance window ?

SWMO Mark

New member
If a person was hunting a area that required them to raise the ground balance window from the preset 2 up to 6. Would this cause you to lose depth?

I remember when these Pros first came out...after everybody started experimenting, some guys went to going NEG on the GB and said it increased the depth of finds. I of course don't know why either, as I was just lurking the thread to see what all the hububbery was about!. Don't worry, somebody will come along and answer your question that has fooled around with the GB setting and explain how it works and where it needs to be set Pos or Neg. I have never GB'd mine, I hunt in the water, and the thing hits as deep as I want to dig.

On average, you probably will get the same depth or possibly greater depth. All you are actually doing is allowing yourself the opportunity to avoid re-ground-balancing the Gold every few feet, which might otherwise be the case in gold bearing areas. So, basically you are setting the detector to compensate variable conditions in a given area, and maintaining a good ground balance, which in fact gives you greater depth. Without this Garrett exclusive ground balancing window, you would loose depth in areas where the ground balance was no synchronized with the ground conditions.

The more out of sync you are balanced with the terrain you are at, the less depth. The ground balance window was designed to save you the option of constantly ground balancing the "Gold" in variable ground conditions. You don't have to use it if you don't see the benefits. If the ground conditions are stable with little variance in mineralization, you don't need to use it.

Mark, You using an AT-Pro now? They are a hot little machine. I've really enjoyed mine so far. There are so many ways to tweak these I'm still playing around every time I've been out. Great in the trash! HH. Pat

Pat, I think its gonna be a pretty good machine. I forgot to say in my original post that it is a AT Gold. That's why some people were confused with my ground balance window question. After seeing the video on the ground balance window on Australian hotrocks, I decided to go with the Gold instead of the Pro. Thought it might work better in some of our rocky variable ground for low conductors like we hunt for. Cant wait to get it out on some campsites. Just really wish they would come out with a 10"x14" coil sometime. Mark

What about the storm 13x14 coil? Just heard a little about them, But you should be able to get some depth.
