ground balance sound change

Evan/tn

New member
i notice when i ground balance my mxt i do not hear a difference in the threshold when i turn it on in the air then lower it to the ground it just sounds the same. is it supposed to change pitch fora a few pumps at the ground or what? this is my first post

Mine usually quiets down a fair bit as soon as the coil nears the ground. Do you possibly have the GB switch on "lock" or the threshold hum set on the loud side? Check that and try again.

it's a good quiet threshold it just never changes from when it turn it on to when i pump it to the ground a few times. I am finding some good stuff. Iv had the mxt for two month's now and have found a walking half, a mercery dime a silver rosie a buffalo nickel a silver war nickle a few wheats and the usual clad. ill be posting some pics soon. I just thought you should be able to hear the ground a few times as you lift the coil up and down. it just stays nice and quit through the process.

Hi Evan,

If you are finding those coins, first you have some good sites and second your tracking must be ground balancing correctly. Most of the time I don't even pump. After a few swings it is balanced. After pumping over a clean piece of ground raise the coil and lock the tracking then as you lower the coil there should be little or no increase in audio. Then you know it is working and either run it locked or set it back to track. Rob

thanxs all iv been running it in the ground position maybe lock would help settle it down some when im pushing the gain past +2 or more. my previous detector was a whites blue and the grey, a awesome machine with manual ground balance that i have used for the last 10 years. thanxs again for the help

Mine balances extremely quickly when the coil approaches the ground, don't need to pump. That's probably what's happening with yours and why you don't notice it.

Half the time I never pump the coil, the MXT ground balances great for me but every now and then I'll pump the coil and I've never noticed the difference but it could be we have some really good ground here in South West Michigan!
