Ground balance question.

jabbo

New member
I search in discriminate mode. I read somewhere that the detector should first be ground balanced in All Metal mode even when all searching will be done in Disc. mode. Any one know if it makes any difference.

jabbo,

It depends on which metal detector you are using. If the detector has a preset ground balance in the discrimination mode, then ground balancing in the all metal mode is not really necessary if you ONLY use the discrimination mode.

If you are using a Vaquero, Tiger Shark or the Tejon, ground balancing effects BOTH the all metal and the discrimination mode. In this case you really DO need to ground balance the detector in the all metal mode first, then switch to the discrimination mode if that is the mode you want to hunt in. Your Manual should tell you if this is the case with your detector.

normally you should always GB before switching to discrimination. On the two TID Tesoro detectors they only have fixed GB while in discrimination howver.

Ground balancing needs a threshold to monitor the process which is available in the All Metal mode. If the DISC mode is silent search (Vaquero) then there is no way to really know where to set the GB as there is no threshold.

Does this help with your question?

Tony.
