Ground Balance Question

Blink

Member
I'm sure this question has been discussed before but I can't find it, if it has. I have GB many machines but for some reason I'm having a problem with the AT-Pro. I have followed the GB section in the manual and have always GB over iron free ground. When I Auto GB I hold down on the GND BAL button and the number 80 appears in the GB window. When I pump the coil the number does not change and there is no sound. I went to two other sites and did the same thing and I still get the 80 reading. I have GB all three places with a different make machine and I get three different readings.
I have also Manually GB at the same sites (as instructed) and when I press and release the GB button I again get the 80 reading. There is no sound untill I hold down on the minus side of the notch disc button to about 68 - 70. Now I have a low sound. I push on the plus side and raise the numbers up until I can just barely hear a sound. I believe that is my GB setting for this site. If I go to another site that GB number that I had for the last site will appear in the GB window when I try to Auto GB. I am very confused as to what is happening or I just don't get it. If anyone can explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it. Without a proper GB I don't believe I'm getting the depth the machine is capable of.

Your ground might be very neutral in which case the metal detector itself might find it hard to ground balance itself. Sort of like ground balancing it in the air.....

Here's a video on ground balancing the AT Pro in case you haven't watched it.

I watched the video and I do the same as shown. As he pumps the coil in the Auto GB you can see the numbers search for the proper GB number. When I do mine the number stays the same. When I turn it on and the number is 80 it stays at 80 while I'm pumping the coil. If I move to another site it dosen't change. Does this sound like a GB problem ?

Blink,

John is probably right with the neutral ground comment. You may try to gb over some small metal trash and see if it changes its settings over that and when complete, go back and GB in the clean area and be sure it works there.

Your manual GB procedure indicates it IS working sooooo you might just have very nice consistent ground to tect in.

The high end seems to be 80. Manually set the GB to 40 then do the auto GB again. It will be different from the 80. Manually set the GB between the 2 numbers (80 and the lower number).

But your other detectors GB differently so why them and not this machine?
