Ground balance, original bandido.

Hey, no problem ground balancing, but I don't quite do it as I've seen it written about.

Rather than flip the threshold reset button when I raise the coil, I hold it in the retune position when I ground balance, is that a good idea or bad one? cheers.

[size=large]you need to hold the coil about 6" to 8" above the ground, toggle to All Metal (hit Retune and release the toggle to go into AM), and make sure you have a slight audio Threshold of sound.

Then, as you lower the coil towards the ground, you listen for any change in the audio. If it decreases as it approaches the ground, that means your GB setting is too negative. An pronounced increase at the coil approaches the ground alerts you that the GB is too positive.

You want it to stay neutral or just increase a slight amount as the coil if lowered. So, when you raise the coil back to that 6" to 8" height, toggle to Retune and release the toggle to go into All Metal. Failure to do that (holding the toggle to Retune during the whole process) can result in an errant GB setting.

OK, Great thanks. I don't know if this will help some people, but I felt tipped + and - marks on the GB potentiometer. So depending on rise or fall of threshold when balancing, it helped me remember which way to turn when first starting out. After a while, it's second nature, but helped me when starting out :)

Thanks again!

Think of the GB adjustment as a volume knob. If you want more - turn the volume up (cw), and if you want less - turn the volume down (ccw).

In this "bob and tune" procedure the sound should remain the same as one raises and lowers the coil to be evenly ground balanced. If you're hunting for gold then it should be slightly positive.
