Haven't had time to do much in the way of detecting in the last year, so took both of my detectors (one digital Minelab and the other a Tejon) into the backyard and started running tests over my small target garden. My ultimate target is a small flat button at 8". I've never tested both at the same time. What I came to realize is that the mineralization across my backyard is real variable and can change dramatically over just 3 feet (watching the gb numbers on the Minelab as I went across the yard). This explains why the Tejon has trouble with some of my test targets if I don't ground balance fairly close to where the buried targets are. Found out I couldn't hear the flat button with the Tejon unless I ground balanced within a foot of where I buried it, but with the Minelab and it's auto gb, no problem picking it up. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way bashing Tesoros, just wondering how other people cope with an area that has real variable ground minerals.
I can use this feature to run my Minelab across a field first to tell if I'm going to have trouble with the Tejon, but what do others do if just running a Tesoro in around an old homesite, where the gb can be pretty variable. I know this from when I had my MXT and could run with an audible threshold that told me when ground conditions changed much. This why I earlier asked about getting an audible threshold while in a disc mode. I wonder if Tesoro could design a two channel mode into a future detector that would allow this?
