Ground Balance - Automatic or Manual

Do you ground balance your AT Pro manually or by the automatic mode. As a newbie, I've been using GB automatically. But as I reread the manual, I see where you can enhance the detection of smaller objects by manually GBing slightly positive, which may help detect deeper coins (page 32 of the owners manual). Now I am thinking of GBing manually and was wondering if this had worked for anyone?

First, ground balance the detector manually, as per the manual and video from the Garrett website, then use this theory to get even better results:

"There is a tremendous performance gain on HI conductors when Ground Bal is lowered."
"There is a tremendous performance gain on LOW conductors when Ground Bal is raised."

In other words....if you are relic hunting and looking for deep iron, raise the ground balance s numbers about 10 +/- numbers.

If you are looking for copper or silver items, lower the ground balance numbers about 10 +/- numbers.

This is a nice trick to learn and use regularly to maximize your depth potential in areas where there are KNOWN deep targets. :)

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely try your suggestions the next time out. Maybe that's why I haven't been hitting coins at a lower depth. Truly apprciate the feedback!!

I have been lowering my GB about 6-10 lower. I've been using the 5x8 coil and pulled 3 silvers and 2 indianheads ,a bunch of wheats, and the one indian was at least 7-8 inches deep, which I think is really good depth for that smaller coil. Most of these targets missed by 8.5x11 coil due to alot of trash and i mean alot.

I GB mine , then set it down about 5 notches, so if it GB at 80 in the dirt, I would set it at 75, try it and see what you think

Very cool....
