Ground balance & -6 & -8

I often get a lot of signals when I'm trying to ground balance. Sometime's it blank but often It sounds like a machine gun and is hard to find a clear area to GB. Also I get a lot of -6 to -8 at 8" to 10 inches. I take those signals as iron but can I be missing something?

When I don't want to walk off to an area clear of iron to ground balance, I find that lowering the sensitivity will usually allow me to find a spot in the mess of signals clear enough to GB in. That said, tracking ground balance is your friend for hunting in iron infested spots.

The only iron signals I pay attention to are the ones that bounce positive. A -5 to +5 +10 bounce needs to be dug in heavy iron.

Have have dug several -8's that turned out to be civil war bullets at over 12 inches. But I have NEVER dug a good -6 always iron.

7, I tried your advice today and dug -8's and some -6's. The -6's did turn out to be iron, big and small. A couple of -8's got me a lead bullet, modern, and a piece of lead, both deep. Jack I always turn my sensitivity down to 22 before I begin to ground balance. Just how low are you talking?

My deepest civil war bullet gave a -8. Glad it worked out for you.
