ground bal id excel

I went to the beach last weekend and could not get the id excel to GB in the wet sand. So just to try something I held the button and gave it a slow sweep that started at about 6" off the ground then got about 1" to the ground. Just in front of me at that very moment I released the auto button and it worked perfectly. I tried it the way the manuel said but it would not go so I tried the slow "u" shaped sweep once more and bang it GB. I did this 4 more times and it worked every time and I was about 2 feet from the salt water.

As the field test mentions, FP mode has an auto ground balance feature built in according to FRL engineering. I had sorta forgotten this. Lots of Excel folks get nervous when they hear 4 beeps, or can't balance in wet sands. But, I guess the answer could be to go into FP mode when you can't seem to balance. Then if you want to increase the sens. over 6 you can manually do it after....

thanks Bill I did not know that.I was under the impression that the FP was just an all around good place to start and did not realize that it GB it at the same time you put it back to FP mode
does that all make sense
