Grinding out the silver

Mason Jarr

New member
I've found a spot that is torturing me. It takes, on average, about 6 hours to pull a piece of silver and most of them are Rosies. Every time I go there I swear I'll not go back and then it'll throw me another piece. So I keep going back to it. I do appreciate the finds, but can only stand the heat for about half a day now. I'm thinking I'll have to find a spot with some shade and then go back to this location when it's cooler. Anyway, here's some pics from the last two days with about 11 hours of swinging. Yep, two Rosies.

Good hunt! It's not a .50cal, not big enough. Looks more like a 30.06

Way bigger than a .30/06. I reload and have an 06. I'm pretty sure it's a .50. I spent 30 years in the military. Look at the scale. It's longer than three dimes end- to-end.

Good finds. Your focal point is on the upper dime, increase F stop number, or possibly manually select your AF sensor to allow focus on the cartridge.

Uh, remember a dime will barely fit down a standard full choke on a 12 gauge shotgun = .690 inches. A 30-06 is on .300 inches so the bullet looks to be way bigger than a 30-06 bullet, it indeed may be a 50 cal.

Silvah!

We find quite a few .50 cal heads here in the uk. I suspect that a number of u.s. aircraft cleared their guns as they flew off on missions. I had some around for years until while tapping the crud off one the tip broke and my hammer head turned reddy pink. Probably a phospherous round and still very active after 70 years . Since then I don't keep them. As an aside , german aircraft apparently carried explosive rounds and an enthusiast managed to destroy his kitchen messing about with one.
