Grey ghost

Meditech

I purchased the grey ghost headphones and I must say I can't stand them. They make the etrac sound totally different then with the koss headphones, is there an adjustment to the audio settings to help with the headphones? I can't run muilty tone with these headphones

Try 4 tones I found that it make better hits and not so much trash. But the again I don't have grey ghost..

Sun ray pro golds are by far the best sound on the E-Trac I have found. I don't know a setting that will improve the gray ghost on that machine, sorry.

I am Surprised you are so unhappy with the Grey Ghosts

So many of us like them, maybe there is a problem with yours

worth checking them out

Good Luck

It just sounds like everything is far away with the mid tones then the high tones almost blow your ears off, thats the best way I can explain it, the koss headphones are great except for the fact it doesn't have a 90 degree jack, so only after 2 months the jack started acting up. Maybe I can just take apart the koss and add a 90 degree jack haha

I'm not a long time ETrac user but I have used Grey Ghost on a Sarari, Quattro as well. I never had any problems but I guess we all hear and interprete tones differently. If you want a 90 degree jack, you can buy them at Radio Shack for about $4 - $5 or less. You might even consider using a set of wireless headphones provided you don't have a lot of electrical interference in the area your're hunting.

I have a set of Grey Ghosts that I have used since day one when I purchased my E-Trac in 2010. To date I have experienced non of the problems you speak of. I received a set of Koss head phones with my E-Trac and I couldn't stand them. There was no volume control on the Koss phones and I needed to be able to control the volume for both ears as I am hearing impaired. I would contact customer service at Minelab and see if they can make any suggestions.

I have played around with the audio settings on my E-Trac to help bring out the higher pitch sounds on silver coins and that has helped me with my hearing problem. Also when working in heavy trash it makes it easier to pick out silver coins in the surrounding trash.

Best of luck with your problem. Rick IL.

GG are my favorite HPs. Crisp sound and comfortable. I can't use Koss. I also own Sunray pro Golds. The tone on the Sunrays are good but not as good as the GG. Maybe there is something wrong with the ones that you have.

A lot of people think that the E-Trac / Grey Ghost combo is the best way to go.
After reading dozens of posts on the different types of headphones - I bought a pair of Grey Ghost Ultimate's almost two years ago.
I really like them - great sound - very comfortable - and reliable after 1000 hrs. + of all weather use.

In my opinion the koss are the lowest quality the tone quality is terrible. there is no volume control. The grey ghost or the killer bs are great choices sun ray doesn't make headphones they just put there sticker on them.

I went to Grey Ghost head phones when the plug on my Koss headphones failed and like you say, the tone is different. Now I can't live without my Grey Ghost phones now that I am used to them.

I too have hearing loss and like the volume controls to balance the sound. You just have to learn to get used to the different tones at first and then they are fine. My plug failed on my original Grey Ghosts after a couple of years (need to send them in for repair), so I bought a new pari of GG Ultimates with the plugged cord and a spare cord so that I will not get caught having to go back to my Koss headphones (which sounded awful after being used to my GG).

Happy hunting!!

I use the Black Widows. For me they sound the same as the machine does when no phones are plugged in and that is what I want. Tried the Koss that came with it and hate the fact they sound totally different from the machine. I don't always use phones depending on area that I am in.

What would cause the Koss headphones to sound totally different from the machine? I have a nice set of Sony headphones that I use at home and I was thinking of sacrificing them out in the field. Does the tone difference have something to do with Ohms?

something is wrong they work great. bad connection bad pair maybe you got one button to mute and one for with resistor or not and turn up the volume limit & volume gane on the machine.

When I had my E-trac, I used a set of Sennheiser pro 280's. They reduced outside noise and had a perfect studio monitor sound to them. I could hear every little nuance that the E-trac was making. I tried a lot of "Metal Detecting Headphones" that were designed for metal detecting but the designers often did not take into account comfort! Or sound! Or outside noise reduction! Sometimes the answer is not where you are looking.
