Grey Ghost Ultimates

I exchange the Jolly Roger headphones for a pair of Grey Ghost Ultimates, they just came in today's mail. I'll be out this Sunday to try them out. If anyone out there has any experience with these, I like to know what you think of them. I'll let you know what I think on Monday.

Best,
SP

I use the Grey Ghost Ultimates with my Safari and like them very well. I can't say there is a lot of difference from my other two sets except they are much more comfortable on my head and my ears. My son likes the Sun Ray's and they are great phones just not as comfortable to me. That' my 2 cents. HH:minelab:

Well, I started with the Jolly Roger Ultimates, then tried the Grey Ghost Ultimates, and now I'm trying the Sun Ray Pro Gold's. I didn't realize that the JR's and the Grey Ghosts were made by the same company or I wouldn't of bothered with Grey Ghosts. They just didn't work well with my Sov GT. I''ll get out with Pro Golds this weekend and report back with my thoughts. I tried them on and they are a little tight on the mellon, hopefully they'll stretch out.

I found the Grey Ghosts uncomfortable and had a flat tone quality to them that wasn't nearly as good as my Sony Studio headphones for $20 at Walmart. Just lucky a friend gave me those Grey Ghosts to try. I would have been pretty mad if I forked out that much money for them. Not saying they aren't great on some detectors. They have a really high ohm raiting (I think 150 ohms) that some detectors call for, where as the GT says around 32 ohms.

I want to plug Detector Depot where I purchased my Sov GT and these headphones. They are a fantastic group of folks to deal with and there customer service is phenomenal.

This is what I've heard as well. Alot of it depends on the detectors tones and our own ears hearing capabilities too as we know.
When it comes to the Sovereign GT I've heard that the Sunray Pro Golds are best of the best. I'm planning on trying a pair tomorrow at a local shop.
I've heard the Killer Bee Wasps are good too but I haven't tried those.

I've never hunted with headphones before. I tried a set awhile back and was amazed at the targets I could hear that you just can't pick up through a detectors built in box.
Even a crappy pair of headphones would be a great improvement over nothing at all IMO.

150ohm hearing aid compatible

Results may vary based on you're hearing but after testing out the Gray Ghosts the other day and the Maxiphone II's and Sunray's today, I am really loving the Sunrays.

The Sunrays had a noticeably crisper tone and are plenty loud. While the Maxiphones and Ghosts are nice too, I got a far cleaner tone with the Sunrays. The Sunrays fit comfortably on my head and noise reduction is really good. It doesn't block out everything which is what I was after. I want quiet but not so quiet I can't hear people yelling my name etc. However make no mistake, they are quiet phones.

For me personally, the Sunray paired with my Sovereign GT are a perfect match.

The problem that I had is that a pair of Koss stereo headphones came with my Sov GT. Like a dumb ass I forgot them at the beach when cleaning my gear at the shower. They're made for hi-fidelety reproduction. I then started using a pair of JBL's rated at 32 ohms, I thought the Koss phones were good until I heard those. When I started trying out the " metal detector" phones they paled in comparison to those previously mentioned as far as sound quality goes. Isn't that what headphones are all about? I don't care what one is using them for. The headphones that I've tried are well made but they sound crappy. I'm heading out this afternoon to try the Pro Golds. I should also mention that ordered a pair of Sony MDR V150 phones for $20.00 just in case the Pro Golds don't work out.,

I think you'll be pleased with them Surf. Let us know what you think.

Went out yesterday with the Pro Golds, they worked out fine. The tickets weren't there but it was a nice day out anyhow.

I've got 2 pairs just in case, nothing worse than having to change phones to another brand when things are going well
