Yep, they got here. They work well. You can turn on the limiter, turn the volume control wide open and get a little more range (air test) while the limiter prevents large objects from hurting your ears. They also have a switch to turn them off ????? I don't think they they have a battery. But be advised of this...... I notice with them on, you can snap your fingers in front of your face, and can't hear it. You can slap your hands together and barely hear it. Just remember when you go out detecting with these on, YOU ARE VIRTUALLY DEAF.....:yikes: I guess you can try to be more aware of your surroundings, visually to make up for it.... maybe! They, honestly, shut out sound as well as my cup shooting ear protectors. I'll try to find out, or work out, a mod for this. I'f I find something, I'll list it. Hey, my Redneck Arky / Okie mom and dad always taught me to watch for myself. They always said to watch my back-track. Investment is small,......rewards could be LARGE.

Crazy as it sounds, having a detector that chattered constantly when the coil was not moving got me in one very good habit: taking the headphones off when retrieving a target.

No doubt it puts more wear and tear on the phones, but it keeps you aware of your surroundings.

If you've ever had someone or something sneak up on you when you were immersed in digging a target with phones on, you can see the advantage.

That's why I have the one cup Killer B's. I have no trouble hearing my targets and it allows me to still hear my surroundings, which is important since I hunt with my 10-year-old son.

In todays world in my area of the world you have to be careful.

Not only will you get robbed, but you can easily be shot, or mugged.

Not bashing the kids there are plenty of good ones, there is also plenty of bad ones who think it's a game to do violence.

Just yesterday in a Whats deemed to be a well off suburb a 12 year old boy stabed a man in the chest.

It just is a wise thing to do.. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS

I have several sets of headphones that really seal against outside sound. From the detecting standpoint, I don't consider that a flaw. From the safety etc. standpoint in some areas, I agree that can be a serious consideration.

Ya wanna save a couple a bucks on a great pair of new Grey Ghost Ult'ies? Check 'em out on E-bay. I thought about drilling a bunch of holes in 'em. I also considered pulling the speaker out of my LST, glueing in a mic element with a C-mos op amp hooked to the detector audio output jack, but goodbye warranty. Best to just replace them. Hey, if you detect school yards, tot lots, or at least detect with others, these 'phones would be just great. They preformed flawlessly. Me, I'm usually risking my backside up on some lonely creek in the back country. I know the risk is really low, but it ain't dumb to minimize it as much as possible. :twodetecting: This guy's safe. :detecting:This guy's not! C-ya.

+1 with Canewrap, I would go with the "Ratler" one cup headphone ( DetectorPRO) or the "Stinger" (Killer B's). If you have good hearing in both ears, then you can hear the outside world and that deeep silver coin in the other ear.

I have a set of the Grey Ghost Ultimate headphones..and it's true!...once you put them on , the only thing you will hear is your metal detector. I have been busy metal detecting and turned around and there were people behind me...I never heard them, even when they were talking...I have now gotten into the habits of removing the headphones when digging and taking a look around every minute or two just to check the surroundings and observe any one who seems to be more curious than others..It is not a bad idea to take a friend with you to act as a look out...heck you could offer to trade places and the both of you get to do a little metal detecting...and the extra security just feels grand...

For the beach they would be great. Wind and wave noise is a problem. Everyone hunts in different conditions. You are pretty smart to keep an ear out for trouble. Don't make it easy to be a victim of man or critter.

I'm with Canewrap and Hombre. The single cup headphones are lighter weight and more comfortable too.

You could always slide one of the ear cups off your ear when in a questionable area. This way you will at least have some hearing out of one ear.

The single ear cup might be the way to go if you are concerned about not being able to hear your surroundings.

To me, that is not a flaw but an asset. I don't want to hear what is going on around me. Hell, you can't hear bears without the headphones, amazing how such a large animal can move so silently.

Using a sharp utility knife, made two cuts in the soft pads and removed the section of padding. Then cut the strip of green cloth and glued it to the pads and where the cut is too. Made both pads horseshoe shaped, the bottoms are open to let outside sound in. Did it to my Killer B's and to these spare headphones to hear my pinpointer, works like a charm. I think the headphone manufacturers should do this. Maybe I needed to do only one pad?

Out in the high desert concentrating on a target.... saw my girlfriend freeking out trying to tell me something. Meanwhile I'm detecting right over a rattle snake. Damn thing coiled right under my coil. She spent the rest of the day by the car and I moved one cuff off my ear.
Cheers,
Jim

I bought a pair of Koss E-9000s to use with my GMT and they too fit over the ears eliminating all sounds but I have to be honest I have never worn any headphones because of way too many rattlesnake encounters. the desert around me has so many that in the 70's UCLA would have teams out catching them for their venom program. now I worry about coming close to a bee hive full of killer bees. I understand they are out there in the AZ desert where I prospect and I can not think of a worse way to die than to be stung to death. so I guess we can add bees to the list of things to look out for. just my 2 cents Mike

With or without headphones, people can still walk up behind you un-noticed.I personally use the "deepwoods" and when I hunt I make it a habit to glance around every few minutes just to be aware of my surroundings. As for not being able to hear, I kind of like being able to pick and choose who I want to hear.DBULL
