hi all since im new to this forum just saying hello. ive been metal detecting for about 15 years ; i have a excalibur soveign elite whites pi and xlt. favorite detectortor is my excal although they dont make them as good as the old ones with knobs falling off etc. wish i didnt sell my old one.
i moved here to pc beach fl 3 years ago from cape cod mass , and so far am pretty dissapointed in the md ing here. maybe its all the beach renourishment which they are doing again now but pickings are slim maybe 5.00 in clad a day with a gold ring every couple off weeks maybe 3 weeks lol. i have never found a old coin on the beach or in the water even in the winter here where as on cape cod could always count on silver coins in the winter.
anyways was thinking about destin beach has anybody had luck there or penscola beach. the only place im finding old coins right now is deerpoint resorvair but too many snakes for my liking to go alone wouls appreciate to get any feedback about destin or penscola happy thanks giving all ) mooncusser

Hi Mooncusser. Yours is the first post on any Find's forum that I've seen from NWF. I presume that PcBeach is Panama City Beach? I live in Navarre just south of Pensacola/Gulf Breeze. If you will go to the Sov/GT Excalibur forum you will see my recent post "SOV/GTING in NWF. As a beach hunter you will be disappointed in beach hunting on our beaches. We are still recovering from IVAN and other hurricanes. I believe this winter all our beaches will be Re-nourished. Good for the beach, bad for hunting. Heading North from Destin the beaches consist of barrier islands. We don't get a lot of wet flat sand. and very few cuts and troughs that are not pounded flat by surf and waves. When we get high waves and tides it just flows up the beach and back again. A lot of dry sand though. I have never hunted Destin beach, but they have a state park there that gets a lot of tourists. Again a lot of dry sand little wet. I'm not much into beach hunting (Gulf side) because of the slim pickings. I do hunt the bays and Santa Rosa Sound. My interest go more to the historical. If it was not so far from me, I would be poking coils around St. Joe, and the Apalachicola area on a regular basis. How about a take on historical sites in your immediate area? HH Don

hi don greeting from panama city beach. well as i posted never have found a old coin on this beach , guess im spoiled from my water detecting on cape cod mass where i always got silver coins in the winter. i woulda thought there had to be wrecks out there in the gulf but for some reason cant get anything old. i probably like you would rather find historical or old coins than the clad and new gold jewerly. somthing about holding a coin a couple hundred years old in your hand makes it special. im in the process of researching old st joe i do not it is not where the present st joe is located. as far as good spots here in nw florida im pretty new here i did locate a spot that i would nt recommend going alone and that is the deerpoint reservoir . i went twice last month found a spainish coin from 1700 s a seated dollar and a morgan dollar but the place is crawling with water moccassins so im hesitant about going back there . i have never tried the bays here how do you do in them and do u you do well at st rosa . thanks for your quick reply they are just about down dredging here which not only ruins the mding but the fishing ( woll post those pics i found at deerpoint after they soak abit in olive oil happy thanksgiving )

If you haven't already found them there are some great on-line research sites available in the state of Florida. One is the on-line SANBORN Insurance record site, and another is the Florida Aerial photo on-line, air photos from 1930's and later. I've included a link to SANBORN below. Unfortunately SANBORN does not include St. Joe, new or old. It does have Acola and Panama City (One year only 1917). Used with GLOBAL EARTH and you can zero in on a location (then and now). I'm working on some local sites along the bays (where I found the 1808 ten X) but concrete flows faster than I can get to them. Hope this will be useful to you. Don
