Greetings from a newbie

Hello let me introduce myself. My name is Byron Im from Indiana Fort Wayne to be exact. Ive been detecting for over a year now. I started with a radioshack/bounty hunter look alike for the majority of the year. This fall I bought a new bountyhunter quickdraw II they both are ok as far as im concerned. But last week I got a GTAX750 I havent got it yet I got it off ebay. I only paid $260 for it which isnt that much compaired to a new one. What can peeps tell me about it and how well it will work and any major issues with it? Does garrett even sell that model anymore? does anybody own one that can give me some tips and clues or ideas on it opperation.

Some of the cool stuff I found this year with my other detectors. My first silver I found was a 1921D mercury what a coin to find. About 3 weeks later I found a 1894 barber half about 10 feet from where I found the mercury. About 300 feet away I dug a 1941 washington. Not to mention the 3 wheats in the same hole. Now this was all from the same park and all in the spring. Later in the summer at a different park I dug my first ring a small silver ring. In this same park I dug my first buffalo a 1938. At the third park I detected i no more then turned on my detector and it had a hit and I had my second silver ring. It is nothing more then mexican silver but its silver none the less. All in all this summer I dug about $120 in modern.

I am looking forward to having my first big name detector I wont be able to use it anytime soon because although its been a very warm winter here. This past week it has been cold like it was back in December. The gound is frozen solid at the monent so there isnt gong to be any detecting soon.

Well thats about it for the moment I hope to be a regular poster here. Thanks for anyhelp you can give me

Byron

Welcome Byron. We'll be looking forward to hearing from you. The 750 is a good machine and should serve you well. Sounds like you've been doing fairly well all along.

When you think that the park I found the Mercury, Barber and the Silver quarter in i pretty close to 100 years old. It isn't a surprise that coins like that can be found there. The name of the park is Memorial park of course its a Memorial park to the WWI vets.

I have been told that this park has been picked clean by the old timers. LOL when I showed off the Barber half to some of those same old timers their jaws bounced off the ground. And to say the least they were a bit envious more so when I showed them my cheep Radio-shack/Bounty hunter knockoff I found it with.

Hopefully this spring hurries up and gets here I have a detecting date with a member of my rock and mineral club. Their house was built in the 1840's and was a lock masters house on one of the locks of the Wabash Erie canal here in Fort Wayne. Ive agreed to let their sons use my detectors in lue of me getting to detect the house and grounds around the place. Its a small price to pay if you ask me. I really looking forward to searching a truly unsearched site. The site has been owned and the past owners were absolute opposed to anybody doing any detecting on their land for the fear of there being something found and then everybody showing up.

This could be one of those once or twice in a life time searches. to say I'm excited is an understatement.

Looks like you have already found some nice targets. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the Garrett Forum about your new machine. And keep us posted on your finds bud! :)
