Great weekend with the G2 in Indiana

I managed a lot of hunting this weekend. The weather was amazing and I got to hunt with some friends. Met a G2 guy from Michigan and got to hunt with him on Saturday. TerryMi had a pretty good day in the Hoosier state. I got out again Sunday and managed to find some flat buttons and a decent 1831 Large Cent. We have had a lot of discussion about the key looking things I recover in the fields. Some people thought they look like clock keys, and they do. I always thought they were a bit big and probably had something to do with our gas boom. I think this one with the little fires engraved in the handle prove the gas theory is the right one. Sounds like our weather is going cold mid week. I still hope to tough out one more hunt next weekend. I ran across a place that will drive me crazy if I have to wait till Spring to hit it.

What did the LC come on the G2.... Sweet how Sweet!!!! :yo:

The large cent hit a solid 84. It was a little under that in the ground and wasn't a super strong signal. I think it must have been almost on its edge. When the plug cleared the hole from about 8 inches the signal screamed. I know they aren't super valuable, but I love finding these things. It took me almost 30 years to find my first one and now I am up to 10 or so. I found two in one hole one time. I also found two in one day.

Cool finds and yes it was on it's edge. That's how all those weak signals act. What coil where you using? I would like to guess the 11 inch. Great finds !!! :clapping:

It was pleasure getting down there and hanging out with you! I came back home to my polar ice cap....its receding, but still here. Ive been soaking the coins in oil, I cant get a decent enough pic to post but the LC is 23 and the IH is 75. Keep at that site with the smaller coil, more will come out :) oh, and I think I got a LB of eating utensils too haha. HH

Nice finds sounds like you had fun! I think the key is a furnace key for the old big in floor gas furnaces and or coal to gas conversions on the old boiler systems, There would be a place on the floor where you insert the key and adjust the temp on a long square bar. Cant tell in the pic if the hole is Square or not, Should be about 3/8". These keys got lost allot. Ive also replaced a really old window system in Berkeley where a similar key was used to security bolt the windows.
