GREAT WEEK CAMPING AND DETECTING

My wife Mary and I left Lake Wales, Florida with 2 other couples in our motor homes heading for Lake Worth, Florida on the Atlantic coast. We were going to spend the next week camping at John Prince County Park in Lake Worth. My wife and I and one of our friends in the group like metal detecting and had brought our detectors. I use a Whites DFX my wife has a Whites MXT and our friend Steve uses a Whites LXT. Our friend Steve has well over 20,000 coins and several rings and other jewelry in his last seven years detecting.

As we pulled into John Prince County Park I noticed three fields that had young people playing soccer, then the picnic areas with their playgrounds came into sight. I told my wife Mary that our friend Steve eyes must be popping out of his head as he really lives to detect and goes almost everyday and we will have them where we are camping. The set up was perfect we could go out early in the mornings and still get back to do the tourist thing with our other friend and our wife's and this was all within the campground. There were two playgrounds within 200 yards of our camp site "Paradise" for a metal detector. The first morning we decided to do the fields where the kids were playing soccer, no great finds got about $12 in coins but had a great time just being out. The next day it rained all day and started to turn cold and we couldn't get out, so made plans to leave early the next morning for the beach. The beach was deserted and the finds were far and few between and we ended up with about $6. Do the cold weather the beaches haven't had much traffic and the chance to find anything good wasn't good so we gave up on them and decided to detect the county parks.

The next day was terrible weather wise rain, bitter cold and high winds and we only got in a couple of hours detecting. The finds were average nothing special about $10. The weather got so cold and high winds that my wife cancelled and wouldn't go out with us. The next morning we headed for the other side of the park where there were tennis and volleyball courts but they didn't turn up much at all only a few coins and a ring. We headed for the soccer field on that side of the park. It was sure full of junk, pull tabs and Corona bottle tops everywhere and very hard to detect but still got several coins and a small silver ring. There was a playground across the street that had a sand base we got several coins then when I got under the baby swings I got a VDI of 44 and a low DC reading so I started to pull the sand away and there was what we all hunt for "GOLD" the find turned out to be a 18K 24" heavy gold chain and medallion. I was thrilled and couldn't wait to show my wife. The day turned out to be a great day with a small ring, ring with Dolphins on it and the large gold chain worth several hundred dollars plus over $18 in coins.

Today we headed for another park within 10 miles of the campground. This was a giant park with several manicured soccer fields, ball fields picnic areas and playgrounds everywhere. We started with a large playground and couldn't believe only got 37 cents. So we went to one of the soccer areas. The playing field is off limits but the heavy grass areas were fair game. I found over $14 in quarters in a 10" circle plus several other coins. The DFX with the 6X10 coil really did a good job separating the coins from junk, only inches apart. I was having a ball and really glad that I bought this Whites DFX detector, it sure was doing the job. This was a great camping area and very good for metal detecting we had a great week with good finds lots of trash and over $75 in coins. What other hobby could do this.

Nice finds .Great story sound like a good time nice to hear some one is out hunting.I know you don't want to hear any snow shoveling story like today when my neighbors were out dressed up like a Eskimo and started to shovel my driveway and i had to go out and help. So then i had to uncover my shovel which was buried from the storm last night bless them all.But i would have been just as happy to look out the window and let it melt for the next week it is the weekend and cant go camping or hunting hmmmmmmm so iam glad some one had a good time for me to read about and think about.Hope you find some more stuff and have time to post iiiiiiiif your not having to much fun. Thanks for the pics and the post be looking forward to your finds.:detecting::thumbup:

Well it's our last morning to detect. We found a complex 7 miles away with 4 football, 3 soccer and 4 ball fields plus picnic and playground areas. The playgrounds were very poor and not much found so we headed across the street to the football fields. The playing surface is off limits but the higher grass sidelines are OK to detect. I started on the end zone area and by the time I got from there to the end of the sideline I had 24 quarters 8 dimes 4 nickels and 7 pennies. I would have gotten more but I had forgot my Garrett pin-pointer and digging tools and was hunting with my friends Whites Bullseye which isn't any competition against the Garrett for pinpointing in the heavy Baha Grass in Florida, I had to be right on the coin or it wouldn't find it. My friend Steve went down the other sideline and found 101 coins, he was using his Garrett Pin-pointer Pro. It was time to go as we had a cookout planned and needed to get back. Really hard to leave those 3 undetected football fields and we will be leaving early in the morning. "SO SAD"

Our final take for our camping detecting trip was 730 coins 4 rings 1 bracelet and the heavy gold chain, plus a great time with family and friends. This is a great area for anyone that's into detecting with over 52 parks within 15 miles of the campground and endless salt water beach parks with their playgrounds and beaches.

That sounds like a detectorists amusement park...without the lines ! The gold chain & medallion are awesome. Did you do the gold dance ? I definitely would have. Great story.
