Hey all, been a long time since I've been able to post. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. As for myself, I managed to stop by a local school last week during our freak heat wave. Boy was it muddy, so muddy that I was getting frustrated and lasted 30 minutes. I did manage an 1896 Injun and a 1916 wheatie for my efforts.

Friday, I managed to get out in the afternoon to a honey hole field that my roommate and I hunt all the time. I got there about 1:30 and met up with the roomie and Big D. My roommate also uses an ATPro and Big D uses a Pioneer 505. They were already digging targets by the time I started swinging. They were a good 20 ft away from each other side by side so I followed the same path, just right between them both. No interference from any of the machines. After a few minutes of swinging slowly over the iron laiden field, I came across a bouncy signal in the upper 60's. Dug down about 5 inches and was rewarded with a real nice green 1880 Injun with a nice full liberty. Awesome! I gave a holler over to the guys to let them know what I found.

About an hour goes by and we all have our share of lead, brass and copper junk. The roomie just dug a piece of a sterling hollow-ware fork. Cool! Then about 30 minutes goes by and the roomie started hollering again. I ran over to the hole as well as Big D and we saw big silver! Turns out to be a walking liberty half dollar from 1946 in real nice shape! I gave my buddy a high 5 and congratulated him. Big D had a few choice words to say, lol! My buddy hasn't found a silver half in about 6 years and was way overdue for it. He said the VDI was 91 every direction at 5" deep. After celebrating :smoke: I went back to where I was hunting. About 15 minutes goes by and Big D said he's had enough and had to go. He didn't find any coins or silver so I knew he was bumming out. Just after he left, I got a bouncy nickel sound. Numbers ranged from 45 - 52 and was at the 6" mark. I dug my plug, scooped out the dirt at the bottom and seen the edge of a coin. I plucked her out of there and after a bit of spit cleaning, it turned out to be an 1890 V-Nickel! I gave a shout over to my buddy and asked if any old nickels ever came out of this field and he said, no. I said, well I just got the first then, lol!

After finding the V, I decided to really slow down around this area and do a thorough search. A few minutes later and I got a real nice high tone. Numbers were bouncing all over the place, but the tone was consistent and I seen the numbers hit 80 - 85 a few times in between. I dug a nice wide deep plug, flipped it over and pulled out the pro pointer. It gave off a very faint beep at the bottom of the hole so I scooped out another few inches with my digging blade. Stuck the pro pointer in again and nothing. Searched the loose dirt and it rang off loud! Low and behold, the top to a very very rusty square cut nail. Doh!!!! But then I remembered, nails don't sound that good. I swung the machine over the hole again and the high tone was still there. Came in at 87 - 88 every time now. I stuck the pro pointer back in the hole and got a faint chirp. I stuck my digging blade in wide and deep and scooped out a mini plug at the bottom of the now 8" deep hole. Waved the pro pointer over the mini plug and the find was in there. I broke the plug in half with my fingers and saw the back of a silver quarter with an eagle on it. I instantly knew I found a Barber Quarter! I yelled for my buddy to come here quick, he came over and I showed him the back of the coin and said, you know what that is. I carefully picked up the coin, flipped it over to see it was still caked with dirt. I gave it a bit of spit and cleared away the dirt and saw that it was in fairly decent shape for 1893. I was so psyched and gave my buddy another high 5. Unfortunately it appears that something hit the back of it at one time, because it has a very nice scratch across the eagle. I know I didn't do it, as it was still inside the mini plug that my digger never touched.

After finding the silver quarter, my buddy started concentrating on the area I was hunting and managed 2 injuns (currently soaking). I then came across a very nice 80 - 81 signal at 8". I cut my plug, removed the loose dirt, and the pro pointer gave a chirp. Dug out more dirt and saw glimpse of silver. After careful excavation, I found a piece of sterling silver whatzit. It was attached together before I opened it to clean all the dirt out. Cool! A few minutes later my buddy yells over to me that he found an 1851 Large Cent that was pretty worn. Awesome day!

So all in all, my buddy and I had a great day, wish I could say the same for Big D. Oh well, maybe he'll upgrade to an ATPro too one day :)
