Great Video Showing MXT Pro & SEF Coil Seeing Coin Under Mineralized Brick Appearantly Much Better Than 6x10 Coil

And note how he remarks that the 6x10 is known for handling mineralization well yet appears to not see the coin as well under the red brick. Yea, this is only an air test, but it makes the possibilites interesting to think about anyway as to the potential here that might exist under normal hunting conditions perhaps?

Many of us have found on some machines (the FBS and BBS units for example) that the SEF coils have a reputation for being smoother in rough ground or iron for one thing, which this video seems to support in a way as to that potential. He's using the 8x6 SEF in this video, but what I found with my 12x10 is that for me in my soil it improves depth, left/right separation, stability, and allows for higher sensitivity settings over my stock 10" coil, which is still one excellent DD coil, it's just that the SEF 12x10 seems better to me in all respects over it. Even the tones it produces seem "crisper", which I think is due to the ultra sharp DD line that also makes left/right separation a wonder to behold to me.

If you've ever used a lousy DD coil with a thick fuzzy field it may have turned you off to DDs (my first exposure to a DD like that nearly put me off to DDs for life). Only when I got a good factory stock DD coil that came with a machine did I realize it did have some perks for sure to me in some ways over a concentric. The 12x10 just sets the bar even higher to me now in what a quality DD coil will do.

Just thought you guys with MXTs would find this video interesting because he's using an MXT Pro to test the two coils with the coin under the brick. In mineralized ground (most soil has some form of mineralization to some extent, as it's very rare to find real neutral soil in most parts of America) even an extra inch of depth or say better target IDs at depth can mean the difference between going home skunked or making some great finds. I know the 12x10 gives me easier hits on 8 or 9" dimes or pennies in higher mineralized ground in super dry conditions, where as I had to work at those signals more to get them to go "coin" with my stock coil.

Of course the same coil on a different machine can have very different results, so consult your fellow MXT users to see if the SEF coils are working well for them. At least in this video the 8x6 appears that it might have some advantages on the MXT as well.

[size=large]you're a couple of months late critter. this video came up on this same forum months ago. results as you point out are impressive and would seem to make the SEF a better choice. that vid was one reason i boght the SEF instead of the 6x10. can't say i was as impressed with it on my mxt as i was very impressed with it on my fbs machine. great seperation with very good depth. my little town is pretty much played out on targets or i'd of given the mxt 8x6 more play time.

I love my 10x12 SEF coil on my MXT PRO. I can not believe the separation you get in trashy areas. A buddy of mine and I hunted a park last year using same machines. Only he had the 6x10 DD and I had the SEF. We hunted next to a shelter that was extremely trashy. He gave up because of all the trash and sat down and watched me dig several wheats and a token. I had no problem in that trashy area. He now has an SEF coil.
