Great News

Just had great news. I just got permission to hunt 3 properties with houses built in the early 20s right across the street from the school. Supposedly none of these have ever been hunted and all are very clean and mowed. All these Houses have always had kids in them.

Also ordered a 5.75 coil for my Cortez, a Garrett pin pointer, and 16 Sanyo eneloop batteries. Chomping at the bit now.

Yesterday I went to Lake Waco and hunted the Corp of Engineers Swimming area. This requires a Permit which I had. I had just got checked for the permit when I got a good hit. The hit turned out to be a real good expensive metal army jeep. I gave it to a kid standing next to me and started a fight. Seems this Kids Brother also liked that jeep.

Taught me a lesson. Next time I will bring it home.

LOL ... and if you tell the brother that the next one you find will be his ... you have a shadow that gets too close to let you hunt. I made that mistake once.

Good luck with the two older properties.

Getting a good hunting site is worth its weight in GOLD. Good luck and make sure you report back !!

Reporting back. Kind of a long story but I was headed to my new property when I went by the school. They have built a new school and was tearing down the old one. I saw where they had moved off two portable buildings with an elevated walkway between them. The portable walkways had 2X4s with cracks between them making up the walkway. I figured that the kids walking these walkways might have dropped coins and they then fell through the cracks. I stopped to check it out. Man was I right. I dug nearly 50 coins in about two hours. I found 4 quarters in one hole. Other than clad, I found an NRA medalion, and a silver ear ring. Ran out of day light to go anywhere else. My Cortez was absolutely killing those coins even though it was very trashy and I still don't have my smaller coil.

Man I sure would like to find a good old virgin site to detect.

Reporting Back

I hunted one of the Houses and so far only got two Wheat Pennies with a lot of Clad and one Lucky Charm Ear Ring. I worked it with a grid using my Stock Coil. There is a reason in that I wanted to really test my 5.75 coil when I get it monday against the stock coil.

I hunted a second House today and got held up. I dug four coins then got a signal that I knew was a Zinc Penny. Somewhere in the eratic signals I got a 95 reading so I decided to dig. I dug 24 Coins out of the same big hole. There was a few bricks boarding this spot so I don't know if someone emptied their Ashtray or some Child decided to bury treasure. They were all Pennies and one was very deep, at least 10 or 11 inches. I am using a Cortez but a Penny at 11 inches is deep. Most likely I picked the shallow stuff and worked my way down. I was so hot after all this extended digging, I had to go home early. My Son checked the Pennies when I got home and one was a 1942 Wheat. I have no idea which hole it came out of.

I did not cover a 1/4 of this second house, so I will report back when it is cooler and I can hunt.
