Great morning at park results in a first !

Hit an area of the park this morning I never paid much attention too in the past. First target was the 1936 mercury dime. Next target was a 1916 Buffalo nickel. Followed that with a couple of Indian head cents(1884 and 1906) and then the spot went cold. Crossed the street to an area around a big old tree. First target was a deep one that kind of hit a little higher and to the right of nickel on the smart screen. Dug down about 8 inches and I popped a small circular object out of the ground. At first glance I thought it was a charm but when I brushed off some dirt and saw III on the reverse I almost crapped myself. After 27 years of swinging a coil, I had just dug my first nickel three cent piece, an 1865. I can finally cross that one off my wish list. I followed that one up with a deep semi-key 1871 Indian head cent that I nailed with my digger ! In the same general area I then dug the 1910 and 1911 V nickels. Finished off the morning with a no date Buffalo nickel. The four nickels bring my old nickel total for the year to 51 with one shield, 16 V's, 26 Buffaloes and 8 silver war nickels. Usually August is my worst detecting month of the year but this August is shaping up to be one of my best !!!

Wow, nice finds!!!

Un-Friggin-Believable Ed! I've yet to find a 3-center of any kind- still hoping old Seated Park has one hiding for me! The 1871 Indian is sweet, nick or not and so are the rest. Congrats on a great day my friend!

Great Ed!! Can you say "hen's teeth" ?! I've only ever dug one and that was in the front of an old school (the property had an old store on it before the school was built around 1910). They corrode just like a nickel, but being thinner they can waste away more. Yours looks pretty solid for sure.
I put mine in ketchup for a couple days and it cleaned up great. Yours looks great as is though - nice detail.
Congrats on the wish list find.

Congrats Ed you deserve it. Everyone knows your the nickel master.
Those sure don't turn up very often and to find one is like finding a gold coin rarity to dig wise (which you already checked off your list).

That's a very special find, congrats. The rest of the finds are very nice also.

Great job!! I dug a 1866 3 cent nickel and the only reason I got it was because there was a piece of wire in the hole with it giving of a high tone. The 3 cent nickels give such a low ID I probably would have passed it up if it was alone in the hole.
