Great grandmothers house pays off

Yesterday I posted about finding my Great grandparents house. A couple of old timers in the area told me to go ahead and hunt it. Nobody would object. So I headed there this morning.

The house had a tin roof and it was scattered everywhere. I was forced to search away from the foundation. I found a flat area that I knew had to be used as a garden or something. Thats where I concentrated my search. Using a Vaquero, I set the disc on foil and dug all good sounding signals. There was a lot of trash but it was old trash. Mason jar lids were everywhere. I made one of my best finds ever . This Indian or Spaniard on a horse. The other side he is holding a spear. I dug three coins. a 1919 Wheat and two Missouri tax tokens. Also got five horse shoes and a pocket watch frame. It was a good hunt .

How Super Cool is that! :surprised::please: Got any pics of the old foundation? What a great adventure! thank you so much for taking us along!:clapping:

Hat pin you have a hot spot their, keep at it you have not even tapped what is in the ground yet , Awsome finds man looks like its never been hunted ,

AWESOME HATPIN !!! :clapping:The Indian Statue is a version of "The end of the trail" There have been many varieties of that theme made in paintings and statues . If memory serves me right , the original was a painting by Frederick Remington . Keep hitting it , thanks for sharing and continued good luck .:thumbup:

glad to hear it worked out for ya hatpin. good stuff.

hatpin,
Terrific finds!!

Have you had any thoughts of hunting the tin roof pieces and removing them to see what else could be found that they are now masking?
Cheers,

I only hunted one small area. The easiest part. This place is a flatspot on a steep hillside. There is enough space for a couple of houses and there are other concrete structures.Soon it will be too overgrown to hunt effectively plus its going to get hot. I like hunting these areas in the winter and early spring. I might not get back until this winter.

Heres another place. its a bottle dump now. I dug through it a little and only found brokenbottles.

That's just totally awesome! Nice going on the finds. I'd love to detect a place like that. Not in the Summertime though.

I found an old map ,online, that list all the houses and occupants in this company town and outlying area. There were three houses on this small flat spot. The foundation in the photos were not my relatives, sorry, their house was on the other side of the flat. Next time ill have to sort through the debris field and find their foundation. My Great grandfather was a cobbler and Id love to find something used for shoe repair.

This is the family that grew up in this tiny house.

My grandpa is top row far right. Hes the only person in the pic I knew.My Great Grandparents are holding the babies. This would have been in the 1920's

Take the advice here and clear out some tin next spring.

Don't clear out more than you are going to search though. No point making it easier for the next guy.

I too have several spring spots. But I end up sticking to sports fields after everything starts to come up. Even then, the mosquitoes take their cut there as well. :(
