Great early morning hunt.

The flooded swimming hole, that I had found the 1927 mercury dime at, finally came down to a workable level. This was my first time in the water hunting. In two hours I had 74 coins, a cheap ring, a few bullets, a button, and a few sinkers. 47 were pennies, only one wheatie, 10 quarters, and the rest were dimes and nickels. I loved the fact that I only found one pull tab. The water must wash them away. Makes me want to stay in the water more. The bottom is a river rock mixed with sand. I dug by hand, it was much faster, but hard on bare feet.

I was using that cheapy DX5000. It is good for a max of about 3 to 4 inches. It seems to work great in water. I have found a 1927 dime and one wheat penny at this location. So I am hopeful when I get the 250, I can find some good stuff. But need to find out if the 250 coil is OK for under water use. At the old house site I have been hunting, I found a 1946 nickel, but it was in a spot that a tractor had scraped. I have found a lot of big metal parts at around 6 to 8 inches, but this detector will not pick up a coin at that depth, So I am also looking forward to a good hunt there. It is a pasture and there have been loads of manure put there and that is the reason I think any coins will be deeper than 4 inches.

I don't own any. Been wearing these GI boots for many many years!! I did change from black to the tan just after the Gulf war though..
