Great day at the beach

Just moved to Florida and had my first day on the beach with my Explorer. Thought id try the slimline since i have almost never used it. Ive always used the SEF. Left the settings the same and that thing chatters something fierce. I was hoping to get a little better read on smaller items. Tiny copper was giving me a bit of a problem. I had been picking up a few pieces of clad and had been on the beach about an hour when 2 really attractive ladies came over and asked me to help them find a small pinky ring. couple trips back and forth and bam popped it out of the sand. Hugs all around and off i go. Hadnt went down the beach a 100 yards and 2 more ladies asked if i could find a ring. This was a wedding ring with one heck of a rock. It didnt take me long to find the buried ring and .... more hugs and jumping up and down. Good day huh? But it wasnt over as i was leaving the beach a young man asked me to help his mom find a ring. Off we went but this time i saw her standing in just over knee high water. Being careful i tried.... but no joy on this one. I took a number and hopefully at low tide i might find it. If one of you water guys dont beat me to it. A side not that slim line coil sucks in the water.... its really noisy.

Great story Dew,

What part of Florida did you move to? I live in Jacksonville. Marty

Marty... im down in Englewood... below Venice. I like the treasure coast... but my wife likes the Gulf and being close to her sister. So guess who won? Ive got to make a serious jump to a water machine soon.

Sounds like you had a great day. Did you try cutting back on the sen.s to see if that would help? It will still pick up a a good depth.

XT i played with it a bit but i believe there was something between the coil and cover. MLs are very sensitive in that way.... just doesnt take much. I should have removed the cover. I think the slimlines were just a piece of junk to start with. Those who got the Pro coil got the deal. It a couple of inches smaller than the SEF so it shouldnt have been noisy at sensitivity 24. I have to say thou it loved tiny tiny pieces of copper.... so tiny i couldnt hardly find them with the probe. It seemed to be pretty hot on nickels.

FK.... you know what they say about karma lol. I did learn something yesterday i hadnt noticed. The explorers are deep deep on the wet and dry sand. But neither the slimline or SEF likes the surf. Even turning them down wasnt a lot of help. When the surf rolled over the coil it drove it nuts. Any deeper and i was concerned about the box or in line coil box. She ran smooth and stable on both the wet and dry sand. I was digging zinkons at a good 12 inches. This is defiantly going to be different. Ive hunted a lot of beachs during our travels plus coming to Fl for the past 3 winters. I guess this is the first time ive started to pay attention. Ive always done well but im not naive enough believe the good stuff in going to be found just on the beach. Guess ill be cashing in some of the gold rings and silver ive found for a new machine. Im amazed as to how the beach changes .... man the amount of sand moved in over night is like it snowing 2 ft of snow.
