Gray Ghost Shock

My friend who I do a lot of detecting with says that his Gray Ghost will shock his ear...especially when he starts to sweat. It's happening to the left ear cup not the right one where it goes to the Excalibur. He tries to explain it as a low frequency shock. No dial for volume on these but they are underwater Gray Ghost's.

Has anyone experienced this or heard of it before. What the heck can it be ???
Maybe Old beachnut will chime in if he isn't sailing !

No ive never heard of that happening. With most everything being plastic and the ear muffs keeping his ear well away from the screws i dont know where it could come from. Does he have the same problem with anyother pair of phones? Maybe a nerve.... they are pretty tight. Is a screw exposed thru his muffs?

We can't understand it. I know exactly what your saying..We can't figure it out , it's very puzzling. He has to put a handkerchief between his ear and pad. It only happens when he sweats. very weired!! cup seems to be in good condition, no damage showing anywhere. He has another pair of Gray Ghost on another Excalibur and he doesn't have that problem.

Amazing your the second I have heard of ... Let me get hold of dirtfishing on this...If I remember correct we got it fixed after I worked on them... the Piezo puts out a small charge so I replaced it with a different type if I remember correctly.

Wow that's freaky....so someone else had this problem. I can see it's not so common !! The Headphones are about a yr old and they are attached to his Excalibur. OK let me know when you find something out. Your the man that knows Thanks Joe (can we take out the coil and rewire or is the Piezo something different ? Barry at Kellyco put the headphone on his Excalibur about a yr ago Do you think they would be covered ??? If not no problem.

I have send Dirtfishin text, maybe he will get back to me but it is the same exact issue but his was the Amphibians, very similar. As far as being covered I say maybe...but it will be a little hard for them to understand as I was the first time DF told me his was a slight shock and only when he sweated....

And yes you can take it out if you have a heat gun, also I would take out the little coil... that regulates the audio..and will make it kick azz louder...like you did with yours...

OK sounds good let me know what he says. His Gray Ghost's are very loud now as loud as mine are now and I know he still has the coil in his. No one has ever fooled around with them. They are loud !!!

Ronnie I will wait to see what's up Thanks again.

Hi Joe,
No they are working fine. Boy that was really weird each time I'd get a target I'd get a shock. That day it was like I was hoping not to get a signal..lol
But no they work great Joe. Cause of you. Thanks bud

That's unbelievable now my friend doesn't think that I think he is crazy. So what is the cure.

Ronnie L

I might suggest replacing the headphones or like I did...gut them out and replace the piezo's both sides because both give off a very small charge when they get a signal from the detector. Question, does his shock him when he gets a signal, or all the time?

I just got off the phone with him and he said when he sweats that's when it is pronounced crackling sound and a low voltage shock. Not when he hits a target.

Ronnie L

There is a constant low voltage going thru but it would be more pronounced if you got a signal. Should be at this point anything is possible... the thing is it is coming from the detector and the Piezo is more then likely shorting out, so I would just pull and replace all if Kellyco can't help... let me know if you need a part number, I can look them up...

Joe my friend left for NY his friend just past away, so he isn't going to be back until Tuesday. I will let you know from there. Thanks again for everything. We sure have great people on this site and you definitely stand out and I didn't even have my first drink yet.

Gee, sorry I missed this post, I'd like a pair that shocked me when I went over a target.....lately it has been so quiet out there that I need a shock when I do go over a target just to wake me up...... :pinnochio
