Gray Ghost Headphones

MARK (LI)

Member
I bought the Grey Ghost waterproof phones to go with the CTX, but find that they really do not keep out external noise (surf, crowds), and that the threshold is not audible on days like today with crashing waves and big crowd...I have the volume all the way up....anyone have any suggestions on how to play with the machine's setings to get more volume?...thanks for any help...Mark

CHECK VOL.LIMIT make sure its up
high tones at 1200 HZ AND SMOOTH RESPONSE
maybe one of the TONE ID PROFILE SOUNDs better then the one your useing???

I agree with Minelabbob's response, I am having the same problem with mine, I ordered a set of GG Amphibians designed for the AT Pro, when I find the CTX connector I will post my results. Anyone have a connector I can purchase please chime in....

it will make the GGA work on the ctx , diff tech on the GGA to the GGUW.

have a read here http://www.detectorpro.com/grayghost-amphibian.htm

the ctx ones are the old style underwater covered in silicone and I think some sort of a limiter in there also.

hope I am right cause I just spent a heap of cash being in :ausflag: and our dollar being in the toilet against the USD detecting has become a bit painful but sure when summer hits and I start scooping up the gold it wont hurt so much :ranting: fingers are crossed

HI AJ
i will keep my fingers XXX 4-U TO i hate spending good money to find out it was not worth the money and the time.
that is why you need to ask many people and do alote of RESERCH NOW CO. are putting out junk and getting BIG BUCKS!!!!!!!!
but hope you get what you need!!

GGUW and the Minelab Yellow Koss headphones are about the same in volume with the CTX. You may notice a little bit of an increase with the GGA's but I don't believe you will be satisfied when near any surf or in the wind. I've bought and used all of the above, and went through 2 sets of GGA's. Failures on both when used underwater.....first set the volume control corroded second set had a leak at the Piezo chamber. I repaired that set with a new piezo.
Still at this time (3 years now for the CTX) there are no good waterproof headphones manufactured that work with the CTX and its lower volume output. All of the above headphones work great on an Excalibur, even the deaf could hear them.....just not on a CTX.

Check overseas with Mal on the MLO Forum, he makes headphones and may have a set that will work with higher volume.... I would suggest talking to OBN, he has made some speakers that work really well with the CTX (I use them daily and underwater), however OBN is on a quest and doing quite well...... I don't think he is doing any side work at this moment!

thanks Bob

did a lot of research , so hope it was all right

guess I will find out in a week or so !!

thanks hey!!

Gel pads on the GGA shells is the way to go. Fit of the GGA's with the gel pads are great, when wearing glasses and for ambient noise. I'm sure OBN did have something to do with the GGA's, Rev 2 of the GGA uses a plastic module to encase the Piezo using 6 screws and an o-ring to seal the piezo cover....one of mine leaked. It is a genius way to encase a piezo in headphones....IF it does leak, anyone with some soldering skills can replace the piezo (as I did).....cleaned up the o-ring and re-assembled. I then used Aquaseal around the piezo cover for added protection from water in leakage. Let us know how they work for you.

Thanks to everyone for providing the info in this topic. I was about to purchase a set of GGU for my CTX, but after reading more into this I just bought the GGA's and a couple of the adapters. I'll put it all together once everything arrives and hit the beach and post my results...

The amphibians should sound pretty good. The set i had obn put a connector on way back did. I decided I wanted to have dual volume controls, mute switch and removeable/replaceable cord though so I took matters into my own hands and built my own. It definately takes more thought/time/money building a set of fully waterproof headphones though...

Does anyone know where I can get the GEL pad headphone covers.
Thanks

these are awesome: http://www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4&zenid=ci8ml3o71f2j1se8bmat4lfhg2

I have them on most of my sets now I like them so much. you have to glue them on to attach them though... I use 3m automotive weatherstrip adhesive.

You can go to the auction site and the same seller has best offer option for them. They accepted my offer of $18 shipped but I bought 4 sets so not sure if they would accept that price on a single set. hope that helps..
