Gravel From Mineralized Rock Yields A Few Finds

That is so hard core. You're a brave soul to tackle a gravel parking lot on a cold damp day like that.My hats off to ya...Is all that from one days hunt?If it is you must have Dig and recovery system down to a science.Great story and pics. Thanks for sharing you're day with us .

Hay Jasper,

Thanks for tha wonderful complements.

You asked:

Is all that from one days hunt?

No. It was from 3 or 4 hours of huntin.

Hard to know because I had to stop

and warm my feet and hands.

But probably less than 4 hours.

If it is you must have Dig and
recovery system down to a science.

I have become pretty good at recovery.

It's important because I can not kneel down.

I have bad knees.

I can squat or bend.

I have worked at easy recovery methods

because I am disabled and do not have

much stamina.

I usually can not hunt more than 4 hours.

Sometimes, I'll hunt 3 hours and eat and

hunt 3 more. That is a big day for me.

I also hunt a lot of gravel parking lots. The toughest I ever hunted was on at an old bar. The bar had been there since the 1930's. Over time it had not only been overlayed with more gravel but the bottle tops and pull tabs appeared to pave it. Found a few coins but my M6 sounded like a bad haevy metal concert. Really hard to hunt. I wish they woud have come in and scraped down 4-5 inches before they decided to pave the lot. Now it's asphalt.

What did you use to dig with? Those lots are packed hard as cement.

Now I'll tell you what. 3 hours is pretty good stamina. Then 3 more later- you may be gettin' younger, Tab!:clapping:

Hay Walt,

I used a 10" screw driver. I also used my foot when ever I could kick somethin up.

That experience and a pic of BJ's digger, inspired me to fashion a new digger.

Tha new one is made of a star drill fashioned into a screw driver shape. I drove it
deep into a hickory handle I made out of a shovel handle.

Here it is compared to my 10" screw driver.

Hope it holds up.

Tabdog - You and the Speedys are an inspiration to all of us!

The bad news is the knees dont get better without replacement...

the handles of your diggers in Plastic Dip? I bought some at Lowe's, dipped the handles a total of 3 times and it makes it easier on your hands. It just puts a rubberized coating on the handles and it's permanent. HH
