"grass scratching" variant on a theme.

It warmed up to 32 degrees today but real windy. Been two days without swinging, had to go! Put the 4 inch coil on the 505 and went to 3 tot lots that I had already hammered a couple of times and trying cleaning up close around the poles and uprights, got 32 coins but the wind finally run me off. Thought that 30+ coins would be a good place to set the quota but then I remembered Lesile from nova scotia always hangs in there until a minimum of 50. If he can so can I! Went over to a park that has always been good for coins, switched to the 7.5 inch coil and put my back to the wind. I was getting frustrated finding good signals and not being able to retrieve them. Then the new method became clear. Watch the depth meter on the 505 and any signal hitting 4" to 2", scratch the 2 inches of grass cover away, locate target with a pin-pointer, chip it loose from just under the surface and go on to the next one. Anything that was over the depth that my pin-pointer could find them will just have to wait for spring thaw! Whence the variance on the theme of plug digging. Kept after this process until I had 56 coins two junk rings and a silver chain necklace and went home! 4 hour hunt. and if Lesile ( from the land of the bluenose ) reads this, noses get blue in Colorado too! Ed in co.

Way to go Ed! 50 seems like a good round number! 56 is even better! I love getting out and just loosing track of time, but here lately I have been having to wear a few more layers of clothes. Congrats on the silver chain necklace and continued happy hunting.

That's dedication, fighting and scratching to your goal....:thumbup:.

Good job Ed. When it's in the 30's and windy I find my trips out with the detector get real short!!
