Grass and 14" coil

I got the 14" coil and tryed to use it.The grass would set the coil off when trying to search. I then with a light touch on the coil would set it off.I called K CO and they told me to adjust the MXT off the presets. I did and still the MXT would go off just by moving it on the grass or touch the coil.
Now this was only on the left and right sides any where on the coil and not on the front or back.
I tryed all kinds of setting and still the same.
What could be wrong???????

Tom,
I ran into this problem in new jersey on the beach, if the coil hit the sand it went off, try swining it just above the grass, also turn the unit on with the coil about waist high, then slowly lower it to the ground and then use a slower then normal sweep speed.I haven't had any problem with grass but have noticed I get a beep if I bump something hard with the coil.

Thank you. I have tryed to tell K co and tryed to tell on the forum too, I am not hitting or anything.
If you walked out (now let me say ,I am outside ,the mxt is ON, the bat level is 10, set at persets ) and pulled one blade of grass out and the tip of it touched the coil it would set the mxt off.Plain old everday grass that is everwhere.
Why doesnt my stock coil, mini shooter,5.3 and or the bigfoot do this. All I am asking is, Is this the way this coil works
I am a Installer for Lucent and do cell sites working all of IL and N Indiana. My MXT goes with me on the road. I spend over 250 days a year in the hotels.
I tryed to use the coil in Galena,Peoria and Litchfield.

I run mine right on the grass and have no problem with it going off. The only thing that sets it off is if I hit something hard - and I'm usually running my gain at 10 - +1. There have been a few people that got the 14" coil that complained of similar problems, and they wound up replacing it. Just my $.02. HH Sarge

Tom,
I agree with Sarge ! It sounds like you have a bad coil. Tour other coils don't act like that because there is nothing wrong with them. There have been several users who recieved faulty coils, Kellyco did recieve a bad batch of coils, unfortunately they had sold quite a few before finding out they were faulty, On the good side Kellyco is great company to deal with and they will gladly replace your bad coil. As I said earlier I don't have any problems with mine unless I bump something hard. These are good coils, in dirt I have gotten 9 inch dimes and in the sand in new jersey I got several 18" to 20" quarters, I know, I wouldn't belive it either, but I dug the dern things!!! Now it won't a blow your ears off beep but good enuff to get your attention. Also on them coins I ran relic mode and got a beep, flipped to coin mode and only got a slight change in threshold. Relic mode MO BETTA !!!
Send that coil back and try another one.

Sounds like another coil for the closet, think I will pass!

Y'know, just an idea. I am a newbie too but maybe you are being too tender with your coil. Get it down in to the grass and see if the ground balance compensates and you give the machine a chance to correct itself. That's why Whites makes cover plates for their coils. Get closer to the ground and you'll detect more and detect deeper.
Darn the grass, full sweep ahead.
I was going over some worked up ground and realized that every time I hit a small root or twig, especially if fresh and moist, I got a quick beep every time it touched the coil.
What would you do if you were in grass 6" high? Think about it!
