Graphic Target Technology helps?

Hi Diggers! I'm a beach hunter. I've probably dug up anything you can think of. (OK, no battleships yet) Quite frankly, I tired of digging up junk. Everything except gold or silver is junk to me. I really grew to hate pennys! :)

Anyways, when Garrett came out with the new GTA technology, I thought this was the best detector improvement ever! I never care about depth readings of targets, I don't trust 'em anyways. I figure I'll get down there no matter how deep it is, but I think size would help a lot in determining if the target isn't a coin or ring. I'm just wondering, does this size indicator technology really help you avoid digging up junk?
Also, a couple of other Q's. On the GTI, can you set up iron masking?, that is, have the unit ignore iron targets? Finally, if there were a lot of nails, can you notch these out easily? Thank you, and keep on diggin' Kevin from Ipswich, Mass.

I use a GTI 2500 and must say that it took me a long time to get it to talk my language. But after a while I learn to understand it's language. Brother... it can speak a fluent language to you . It will make you smile, it will spoil you to death, and it will lock out anything you don't want to recieve. She is a full spectrum Rock and Roll treasure finder.
It's target imaging is awesome when it comes to helping you to determine wether or not you want to dig good targets or junk ones.
Like all detectors it can be fooled! But it will give you a higher level of confidence as you see how she speaks!

Don't take my word for it ask some of the others! Get all the information you can from everyone before you make your purchase. I have seen GTI 2500 go for as little as 600.00 and brother that's a great investment, I can honestly say it will pay for itself!

Hi KCK: Thank you very much sir. I think you have helped me decide on what I will get for my coinshooter. Now, that $600, KCK, is that for new or used? I am pretty sure I will go with the GTI 2500. I would like to hear about using the 2500 from other users as well.
Thank you, and keep diggen' Kevin from Ipswich, Mass.

Once you get comfortable with the imaging feature and learn its limitations, you learn to trust it and it has a very good probability of being correct. There is a learning curve to it....you can't just pick up a 1500/2500 and get it working efficiently for you. I know I have dug countless extra coins, because I left so much junk in the ground.

Another bonus, is that you don't lose any depth by adding discrimination. You can eliminate or mask out the iron by removing a couple of notches below the iron, or bottle caps, or pull tabs or pennies......The machine still reads the targets, but you don't hear the audio.

Hello MassSaltH2O

As John said there is a bit of learning curve, I've been using mine for about a month & a half, but not every day! I feel fairly confident using the 9.5 imaging coil, I've used the 12.5" imaging coil once & works almost the same as the 9.5", but deeper & is a bit heavier.
I've read a few people complaining about the over all weight of the machine, but I've worked in construction for many years & have no problem swinging this coil for 4-6 hours at a time.
The imaging for depth & size of targets is a great tool, sometime off a bit, but as John stated once you under stand what the machine idiosyncrasies are... I'm starting to guess/know accurately what I'm digging before I dig.
I have the DD scorcher coil, which I have yet to practice with, in all metal mode, before I head to Yukon for gold.
One more added feature that I'm really glad I added was the Sunray probe, makes it much faster at locating deeper targets.
OK & for those who are curious about depth, the deepest so far with discrimination on was about 7"-7.5", I found several small hot-wheels at about 12" in discrimination on using the 9.5" standard imaging coil.
Of course I still get the odd target that is iffy, but over all I'm pleased with my choice of detectors & still have lots to learn the full potential of the GTI 2500.
Hope this helps you with info on GTI, the only other machine I've use was the Garrett ACE 100 which is the bare bones machine Garrett once made, but it was such a rugged, easy to use, works very nicely for the bottom of the Totem-pole machine & I decided to stay with Garrett detectors.

Would love to hear more comment on the DD 5x10 scorcher used with the GTI 2500
1. How does DD work in all metal with practice ground balance in unmineralized soil?
2. Is it possible to manual ground balance in unmineralized soil?

Best hunting to all. Dave

Hi Dave: Thank you for your feedback. YOu are going to the Yukon for gold? You lucky duck!!! Let us know how that trip is/was.
It sounds like you are much farther along the learning curve than I am. (of course, never having owned a Garrett machine before, this makes sense.)

Yes, I am going to get one of those bigger coils once I get my 2500.
One thing that you wrote that caught my eye was that you said the new probe helps you find deeper targets. How so? I thought probes were for pin-pointing.

Have a blast in the Yukon. Keep on diggin' Kevin in Ipswich, Mass.

A field test! Bless your heart, Uncle Willie! We don't get enough field tests. I will certainly check that out. Thank you very much.
Keep on diggin', Kevin in Ipswich, Mass.

Meant to say it pinpoints very well, but technically they say the probe will go about 3in., add that to whatever depth your detector goes.

the probe makes for very quick recover of targets, less digging.

Going to Edmonton tomorrow, so may not be able to reply after this note until I get back. Dave
