It wasn't the most pleasant day to do my first hunt, however, I did have today off and planned for a cold hunt building a winter cover for the CX yesterday. I taped the hot packs on the CX and they were still warm some 4 hours later after the hunt.

I too had my long-johns on for warmth and had to pick up a pair of winter gloves prior to this hunt today.

Here is the type of area I hunted today. There was about an average of 6" of snow on the ground. The areas were quite dense with a lot of bushes. My snowmobile boots flattened a lot of them and allowed the coil to get into some tight spots. I mostly ran in the true all metal mode, as I had to slice the coil into the dry snow and needed the extra depth to hear the faint signals.

My first signal/find nearly gave me a nitro. The CX gave a nice strong signal on the main trail on this so I had to check it out a little further. I saw gold in the dirt and thought that I had maybe found a gold bracelet. Upon further digging, I saw the face of a watch and calmed down somewhat. My next two signals gave me some coins (pennies) and more coins later on along with some bottle caps. I came across a tent for some homeless people. There was nobody in the tent at the time, but it was still set up for sleeping. There was a small wood burning stove just inside the tent entrance.....

After about 3 hours in the woods, I was getting quite chilled. My fingers were hurting and I was getting ice formations in my face. Here is the total take for the day. Not too bad considering the 6 inches of snow on top of the ground which I had to contend with......

I got into my car, warmed up a bit and headed to a favorite place to feed the birds. They must have recognized me from last year, as I found an opening along the trail, set the CX detector in some tree branches and a bunch of chickadees came by, just waiting for some handout, which they got!

I really enjoyed using the Master Hunter CX again. It's been about 10 years since I sold mine. It is nicely balanced...as you can float it on 3 fingers. Instead of swinging your arm back and forth like a pendulum to produce the coil swings, you can just simply do an internal and external rotation with your arm to get the coil moving back and forth. This machine might actually be a bonus for someone who has arthritis in the shoulder or tennis elbow, as you can keep your swinging arm straight.

The true all metal mode is a great asset, just as it is in the GTI 2500. My pennies were reading just to the left of the penny icon on the meter. After digging my first two penny target, it was a fairly easy guess as to the next pennies I got. I did get a bobby pin at about 4 inches in the ground, but the coil actually picked it up on top of the snow. Not too shabby. I kind of expected it to be sensitive, as my staple air test last week mimicked this scenario.

The CX really bangs hard on coins. I have no doubt that had I gone over a silver coin, it would have responded with a good strong signal.

I think the CX just might make a nice machine for someone who doesn't really use all the bells and whistles found on some of the other Garretts, yet like to go out and do some coin/relic hunting at a lesser cost......

It was about 28F tonight when I stopped and hunted a tot lot. I could only last 30 minutes and was froze to the bone. I'm still in my coat here at home trying to warm my core. No kidding! I don't know how you do it? Sounds and looks like a nice hunt. I always look forward to you snowman hunts!

I think it's a drier cold up there. If he was here in Oregon in the same temperature he would freeze out quick. I used to be able to handle the cold but hate it anymore. Used to work in the dead of winter fifty stories up in a wide open high rise with the wind whistling through it where cold was COLD.

your unbelievable man! I always liked that CX. Get me motivated to get one. Well she sure did have a heck of a maiden hunt. If that was a field test for a magazine you and the CX would be detecting hero's!
