Howdy,

Well after the first week and a half into my new metal detecting hobby, here

Welcome to the hobby. I'm a newby myself, having gotten started just this spring. Hit playgrounds in parks, school playgrounds, spectator areas of sports venues, etc. Hit the schools on weekends when there arent' any kids around though cause school officials get nervous. I've had mixed success with sand volleyball courts (but it was so hot most of the summer that they werent' used much). I've hit every school playground for about 20 miles around and had great success. There are some surprising finds in them - a 1 pound Irish coin, a $20 Jamaican coin, rings, pendents, and lots of small change. Good luck and happy hunting.

:usaflag:What is even better...is when you really get to know your machine...and you go back to those first places you hunted. You won't believe that you missed so much. Happy Hunting !!

Sounds like you're doing more than well MrGee. Those school playgrounds sound like a good idea. Week-end (long one) starts tomorrow so I think I'll take a look-see. And actually, McDave, I do believe you're right. There is one spot in particular that's still bugging me and I'm definitely going to go back to give it the once over again.

McDave, I noticed from your profile you have 3 different coils. Any particular one appeal to you more than the others?

If you want to talk about coils, about 2 months after I bought my 250 I bought a Sniper coil and have never looked back. Now if I try to use the stock coil, I find it heavy and hard to locate a target. I pretty much stick to the sniper all the time now. I will probably spring for the new DD coil when it's available, but I'm sold on the Sniper.

Murfar, welcome to the forum and the hobby! I am relatively new at detecting as well. It's been just over 4 months, and I've logged hundreds of hours, and I'm still learning things. The only advice I can give at this point is: go slow and dig everything that isn't iron (unless you're looking for relics)...it's worth it! Happy hunting...

Welcome to the hobby and this forum...Youll\
get a lot of good advise from the experienced
folks of which im not one yet!!!

Sounds like your off to a good start
