Grand Slam with my Explorer XS

I am a Whites guy by trade , but I bought a used explorer xs last year from one of my buddies for $200 bucks just to see what the other side was like! Anyhow I've been detecting over thirty years , but days like today you tend to remember . I went out for an hours and a half at a area about four blocks from my house . Not knowing if anyone ever did this before , I proceeded with caution . Well thirty minutes into it , I had six Wheaties 2 Indians and a Merc Dime .. Then I got a GOOD sounding hit , and OUT pops a Walking liberty Half , Along with a SILVER nickel ... Wow .. I love finding silver halfs ... So I go two more feet away and get another Silver sounding signal ,, And OUT pops a Barber Quarter .. 1903-O... So a silver Half , Quarter , Dime , and Nickel .. along with seven Wheaties and A couple indians ,,, and two trade tokens .. all in a hour and a half ...WooHooo ..Wish it wasn't almost winter here in Wisconsin :) I only did about a third of the area so far :) , But u can bet Ill be back there soon :) I am starting to like my explorer :) .. I also have a dfx,and an xlt .. But I don't think I've ever had four silvers ( GRAND SLAM ) of different denominations in all my years detecting ... All the old coins were about six to eight inches deep.. I am starting to figure out what this ol XS is telling me .. Little by little :) Ill get a good picture posted

Hey Todd Wisconsin,

I'm Chris down in Beloit. Guessing you are north of me.

Grand slam means four types within a denomination: Seated, Barber, Merc, Roosie. Never heard of anyone getting Bust, Seated, Barber, Merc, Roosie; maybe Grand Slam with extra point. What you have is a Silver Variety Assortment #7, also know as a 90 Cent Silver Stack, or a Wisconsin Pyramid. I need to work on these. Anyone?

Great day detecting and hope the ground freeze holds off. With this last bit of rain should be perfect detecting.

Chris

Ok ...I dont post enough to know any of the terminology ..." grand Slam seemed appropriate" :)... I was just excited to find four silvers.... Funny thing .. Last year was the first year I found a Barber Quarter ... I've found Large cents ,, Seated dimes .. even a silver dollar ... But this is only my second Barber Quarter .. but they sure are pretty when they come out of the ground ! Heres a picture !

WOW. I get excited when I pluck just one silver out in a day. Great job!!!!

Excellent finds. I tell you ... the XS is still one heck of a machine if you can get your hands on one.... and you got one CHEAP. I have friends that have them and hunt with nothing elce and kick butt with them. If one hits the market.... they are on it as back ups and parts. Enjoy the machine.... theres no bad Explorer except a broke one.
