GPZ 7000 Battery

Architex

New member
I see that the battery for the 7000 is the same size as the 3030 battery because they both use the same charger. I'm wondering if the 7000 battery can be used on the 3030.

Inquiring minds want to know!

That's a VERY good question & one that never I never thought of.---I would be interested to hear the answer to that one also.-----You might post this question on the Prospector forum.---I think Steve H. has both those detectors, he should know.----Either that or give Minelab a call.----I also wonder if they both use that new battery seal?

Hi Architex -- While the battery will fit on both detectors and they use the same charging base, they are not compatible. The voltage is the same but the amps are not. If you use the CTX 3030 on the GPZ 7000, it will not power the machine. If you use the GPZ battery on the CTX, it will burn up the CTX. If you have any other questions, please email us at service@minelabamericas.com.

Once again Jamie is on it. :super:

My goodness!----I surely hope Minelab has a warning out for CTX/GPZ users about this!-----Serious stuff!

The CTX and GPZ rechargeable batteries are compatible. What is not compatible is the backup AA pack for the CTX. I am not sure where Jamie is getting the information but here is the official Minelab statement on the issue:

Soooo the next question is ..... why the difference in price? Id be using the CTX batter too if i had a GPZ.

GPZ battery is a larger (Watt hour) battery, from the stats listed in Steve's post, it should last about twice as long as the CTX smaller (watt hour) battery......larger = more money Dew.
Larger would mean more hunting for the CTX with the GPZ battery.....sadly my body wouldn't last that long! :)

In theory the GPZ batt would last twice as long and cost just 1/3 more than the CTX batt. Bargain?

MLA, electrically speaking, being the same voltage, there is no problems. The current is what the device is pulling frim the battery source, which requires the battery to have the mah rating. I only own the CTX, but my background tells me there is no issues using the GPZ battery on the CTX. The other responces above are accurate. A matter of dollars and cents!

Yep, Ohm's Law

Hi everyone, it does appear I was given the wrong information. What steve herschbach posted is the correct information. Sorry for the confusion!
