...awhitster got me thinking I should look into this. I could use some way points now and then. What will $100 get you in the way of a GPS unit? Anyone care to make some reco's

I have a handheld Magellan Sport Track. Easy to use. Goes for about $179 on Amazon. You can get a Magellan Explorist for $107. Wait until Rosco finds this post, he is the GPS:nerd:

hi dave, i use a garmin e-trex venture that i bought on ebay for around $130.00. It is a small light weight handheld. it is simple to use and has saved my ass a couple of times. i use it to mark sites in the woods and then i can go to terra-server and check out the surrounding area via sat. photos. before hiking into deep woods i always mark my truck as a waypoint so i can easily find my way back to it. the only drawback is that it sometimes loses reception under heavy tree canopy, especially on a cloudy day. there are better handhelds out there but for the 130.00 price range it does ok.

Cloud cover, trees, it doesn't matter, that Magellan Sport Track works in all conditions.:nerd:
