GPS Function

When I first started researching the CTX 3030, I thought that the GPS function was just a bell or whistle that I would never use. As a matter of fact, it was just a waste of time and energy. But, after I learned how to cycle through the machine with all it's functions, I gave it a chance. Was I ever blown away. I was awaken to another weapon in my arsenal.
The first time I used it, I was researching a possible stagecoach route that ran thru a county park. Well I found the trail, and some finds. As I tracked the trail with my GPS and geohunt engaged, I would lose the trail here and there, but I could easily find it again by the way points I had plotted on the way. I contacted the local county historical society and let them know what I had found. They asked if I could give them the map of the trail, since they knew nothing about it. What a great find it turned out to be.
Since then I always keep my GPS engaged, on all my hunts, and import the hunts in my Exchange 2 software. So much information has been given to me with this tool. Whether hunting in the woods, a freshly chisel plowed cornfield, or the city park, I believe the GPS function will benefit all who choose to think a little outside the box.

That is a great tool, I have just used it here and there and without the knowledge of truly knowing how to use it or its capabilities. Could you do a very detailed video on how to use it properly?

I have yet to use it because there is so much to learn about learning discrimination, sensitivity and so forth. I've seen pics of the display that shows a "trail" of where the detector has already been but I don't even know how to do this yet. I hope to get to it someday like you have.

Working on more videos for you guys.

I used the GPS to track a hunt I did at a small swimming beach, just to see how it worked. I ended up refering to the GPS tracks several times to cover small areas I had missed. Since I was in sand I started dragging my scoop to leave a trail and was able to compare the GPS track to the trail in the sand. I was able to cover the entire beach easily but felt like the GPS track would be most useful in a park or field where you can't lay down a trail. Anyway, I really liked having that feature, just that much more information available. By the way, I managed to find 4 sterling silver rings as well.

Dragging the scoop in the beach sand, that's what (I think) most of us do and it works perfectly... for the day. The problem with it is that, next day the mark is gone! IF you use the Geohunt, the mark stays in the unit and next day you can come in and continue where you left off without wondering "did I cover that area yesterday"?
