Is the gps on the 3030 accurate? Have tried various hand held and not been impressed. Still trying to justify expense of machine before buying.

It is equal to any other handheld GPS. Personally, I like it and use it often. It normally gets me within a few feet of a marked spot. It's not a land surveyors $20,000 sub-inch reciever, it's a normal consumer grade GPS. Don't buy a CTX for the built in GPS, buy it for it's ability to alert you to deep silver and copper coins.

"Within a few feet" is a lot closer than some l've used. I assume it's compatible with google maps?

The xchange program overlay the points on to a google-earth map when you are logged in.

Like Jason says, but in a lot of my areas it will sometimes wander off target when the # of satellites it hits are low or when I go into the trees, deep in a holler, near/under a canopy, etc.

I think it is quite accurate. I detect mostly on the beach and can compare tracks during various low tides. I've gone back weeks later to find a signal when I was unable to dig a target due to incoming tides and too high of surf. Sadly what I was after wound up being what looked like a chunk of lawnmower engine case. but I did get to it using the GPS.
