can anybody tell me the noticeable differences between the Gp extreme,Gp 3000, and the Gp 3500. I'm getting ready to retire my xt-18000 and move up. they are all fairly spendy, but any money that I can save with out losing performance would be great. thanks Brian

All the bugs that were in the GP Extreme were worked out by the time they came out with the GP3000. All of the machines had about the same depth, the difference came in the stability of the machine to run smoothly.

If you can still find a GP3000 I would say that would be the way to go.

The GP3500 is a fantastic machine, however it is very pricey, and it is a tad more difficult to understand. If you can get a good used GP3000 then I would say that is the way to go.

WHAT AM I SAYING ? I'm sitting on $40,000 worth of inventory of GP3500's !

However, I assume you want the truth, and not a sales pitch ! SO if you can find a 3000, I think you will be very happy with it.

If not, and you want a GP3500 I would love to the opportunity to earn your business.

Merry Christmas!

Hi All& brz
I`m new to this forum and just getting my feet wet with the EXII and lovin it!I`m not new to the GP series detectors though and your considering a GP detector is a great choice for a gold machine. In fact the best machine out there. The GP Extreme was the first generation, the 3000 second, and the 3500 the lastest and greatest. The prices for these is also in that order. All late serial# GP Extremes 70,000 and higher were considered the best with very little problems, problem being threshold stability. The Gp extreme will always be slightly less stable than the 3000 or the 3500,but as far as power and depth preformance all 3 are basically the same. The only differance between the 3000 and the 3500 is the 3500 is more user freindly having the tracking switch on the grip (now a button)that allows the user to ground balance with ease. Both the GP Extreme and 3000 models use a toggle switch that is somewhat more work but only if your ground balancing constantly.I hunt generally low mineralized ground in Northern Nevada and I ground balance very little in a day, however in places like Arizona the ground can be highly mineralized and this new feature on the 3500 can be great when needed.
If you are looking to get a powerful and cheap GP(used) the Extreme can be had with the hard case and (2)coils(11"&18")for less than half of a 3500.00 new.You will pay about 1400.00 for a used Extreme. 1900.00-2100.00 for a GP 3000 and about 3350.00 for a new GP 3500.All 3 machines give about the same depth capabilities. The NuggetFinder coil series seem to be the Best but some prefer Coiltek. But the new XP SERIES Coils I would say are the best to go with.Comparing these machines is like comparing the Explorer series detectors, the XS is just as powerful as an Ex II but the ExII is somewhat more user friendly,it all depends on what you want. You could save a bundle and get a cheap used one and spend your saved money on coils and be finding just as much gold as the guy with a new 3500.I hope this helps you choose but either way you can`t go wrong for a nugget machine, nothing else comes close for depth on any size of nuggets.
