Gouged a Barber tonight :rage:

Got back to my favorite haunt tonight for another hour and a half. Took 4 IHs (1893,97,99, no date), a 1903 V-nickel, 1920 wheat and the 1906 Barber dime. It's in great shape except for the upper left part where I must've scraped it with my digger  Oh Well, it's better than not having found it.

This puts this site's total to 35 IHs, 15 silver, 5 V-nickels, and the 1 shield. God knows how many wheats.

The 5" coil is pulling these out. I hit a hotspot that had large targets and a pipeline mixed with these coins. The 5 incher was able to go between all these signals. I bet when I hit this section last year with my 8" coil, I ran away from it

You must be related to my twin brother. A few weeks back he pulled up his best coin, a 1879 Indian Head which was in near perfect condition until he stuck it with his digger. You got a great place.

Thats where a pinpointer comes in handy...Several years ago my hunting partner goughed a seated quarter with mint luster still on it...Was not a happy camper that day...

you DON'T gouge a high-dollar coin. I'm loving mine, and using it more and more. I just got really tired of damaged coins. If it says 4" on the meter, I plug and probe. No question. Don't waste time or money with any other kind of pinpointer, they just aren't good enough.

I rarely gouge a coin as I dig a 3 sided hole. I mustve scraped out the bottom of the hole before I saw the coin.
