got two hunts w/cz3d under my belt

two hunts with 1hr a piece w/cz3d my take 1st hunt i think my sens was up too high got alot of deep high tones once i turn sens down too a little over 3 detector was stable i ran in all metal so i could hear the tones. I was hunting a park that i hunted about 15 times (close too my work) i did find three nickles that i missed with the xlt all rang high tone then as i was going to the truck i dug 1935 merc this made my day 1st hunt still trying to get the hang of the cz and i get silver!!:clapping: 2nd hunt was today after work i went to a park that is over a hundred years old this time i felt better with the 3d (more comfortable) i did dig some deep nails that fooled me, found 4 zincs 2 nickles 1 dime then as i was going to the truck again i get a high tone 6 in deep i dig it up its old looking but couldn't tell if it was a wheat cent or what so just out of curiosity i switched to salt it rang up as foil flipped to advanced i got high tone ended up being a 1886 variety 1 (Indian) sweet:super: the cz3d is a 1021 ser# air tests 12 inches on a dime with sens just under 4, all metal mode, ground bal at 5, so far only thing that puzzles me is pinpointing it will only pinpoint 8-9 inches and detects farther than that so i have to x the target it's not that big a deal but i usally pinpoint the target then recheck the signal as i walk around it!! but other than that this thing rocks not as heavy as the xlt, more depth than xlt,i hade to have the xlt so cranked up it was was never stable, lets just say i'am very happy right now!! :beers:

You'll like that 3D more and more midwest hillbilly... I've had mine for 3 years now and have many great finds with it... Fortunately, I can run my sens at 8 and don't have too many false signals... Did have to send it back to Fisher once as I noticed nickels weren't reading as a high tone... Once it was re-calibrated, she has been a nickel monster...

Heck have used CZ's since 1992 and still learn something now and then...Google Mikes CZ page as it has a lot of info.
No CZ ground balances at 5 every place you hunt so it tells me you need practice with ground balancing and recommend the bobbing method. Every time I move to different location it always ground .balances a tad different number.
To keep it at 5 you are costing yourself depth and stability as you are not fine tune ground balancing...believe me been there done that.
Depends on your ground but usually will pinpoint as deep as it will detect but might be awful weak especially on a 12 inch silver dime which I find now and then.
Make sure after you get a signal push the coil to the side press the pinpoint and go over the target as you may be partially detuning if you push the button over the target.
All in all it took me months to tell a nail from a deep coin so all in all seems like you are doing well...and good luck with your depth demon..

thanks for the info i love to read info for the cz. the problem i'am having on pinpointing is i can get a solid signal (just say deep iron) when i go and pinpoint i get no signal, one of these signals was a deep atlas lock got good signal just no pinpoint i x'd the target dug it up just to see what it was (it was the lock), so i tried a coin laid it on the ground pinpointed it raised my coil till their was no signal then raised the coil2-3 more inches and still got a signal. on the ground bal i don't fell like i'am fine tuneing it well but i do the bobing for ground bal as for the ground bal of 5 that your talking about was just air testing, but i do notice that ground bal does change alot today on lunch break the ground was real lose not packed ground bal at 3 this was the lowest i used so far but it still went deep i pulled a 45 wheat cent at over 8 inches. if the sink rate in that park is that bad i hate to see how deep the silver is!!! again thanks for the info i can use any and all i can get!!

Honestly think most of your problems may be your a newbie to the unit....Heck I didn't learn one overnight and will take more trips to the field to become comfortable but you seem to be doing quite well. Always a chance your pinpoint is not working properly but talking to an experienced CZ user in your area or perhaps a Fisher deal should help greatly.
All in all just takes time and the first couple of trips with my original CZ6 wanted to wrap it around a tree after digging a bunch of those blasted deep rusty nails. Let us know how things go...
As far as the ground balance where it balances doesn't indicate bad or good ground just so it balances and at what number doesn't matter..

Hey hillbilly

Ya might try new batterys, pinpoint mode zaps them pretty quick. The disc will work ok on weak batterys but the pinpoint mode won't work. Try the battery check on your unit.

went out after work today and just what you said depth monster 4 hunts now with old coins each hunt, the cz3d will go deeper than my xlt could ever think of, the ace 250 i had was a coin magnet (clad) unless you ran across a shallow oldie, the xlt i liked the tones for each vdi # but found myself digging only high tones, i love the cz3d with everything from nickle to all coin high tones so what it don't tell ya if is a dime the vdi # on the xlt would always differ depending on depth of the coin, and i can see now why everybody says you know when a cz hits a coin!! today 4th hunt i got two buttons,of course a couple of rusty nails, 4 wheats 1910,15,and two 16's these coin were deep in the spot i went i have allready clean house on the clad and a few wheats,1 barber quarter these coins today was deep and the ace or the xlt never seen them!! dan i think your right cause today on all these deep coins i could get it to pinpoint is was tuff though coil scuffing the ground and a very faint audio but it did see them!! going out tomarrow with my folks going to meet them at the park were i just found the indian i hope to keep the streek going the cz3d was the best $ that i've spent yet on a detector!! again thanks for all the info.

Hey hillbilly sounds like you have a problem with your machine on pinpointing it should sound off with a good hum even if signal is deep ,mine will pinpoint perfect every time and depth reading is usually accurate ,dan is right when you get a signal with high tone in two directions, swing get tone and when right on the edge of tone push pinpoint and you should get a hum that gets louder the closer you get to target and depth needle should reflect in same manner. The only time I have a weak sounding pinpoint is when the target is small and very deep but still pinpoints correctly. Also I might add that with mine a very shallow coin will have a broken high tone making you think it may be junk but just raise your coil higher and see if it gets solid if so dig.Congrats on your new depth monster hope you have a good digger you'll need it!

Pinpoint seems to take a lot of juice and actually usually the way I know my batterries are low even though CZ's provide this ability. In other words if you pinpoint keeps cutting off test your batteries in the unit Analog and Digital differ how you do and would bet its time for a battery change but even low batteries other aspects of unit seem to work.
Basically a second way to tell if your batteries are low and certainly not going to pinpoint correctly with low batteries...

my luck keeps going today i found a little under 2.00 in clad 3 wheats 39,56d,53s 28d buffalo nickle the cz3d is doing what it's does best finding the old coins, nothing was real deep today. thanks everybody for your info and not just in this post all posts as i think i read them all just to learn what i can and put it all to good use!! I went hunting with the folks today they both found their first wheaties today, mom used my old ace 250, step dad used my xlt i think they will sleep good tonight (lol) they got a good workout!! but they said they had a blast and was happy to just get out. it was all worth it for me when i heard my mom scream cause she found her first wheatie you would of thought it was a gold diamond ring the way she was screaming!!! got to love this sport:clapping:
