just can anyone offer any tips on ground bal
thanks

Glad to hear the 305 is working out for you. You asked for tips on grund balancing. Let me give you my thoughts...................Turn the detector on and set it to All Metal. I use all metal so I am sure there are not targets under the coil when I set the GB. Next I would recommend you set the Noise Cancel to reduce any outside interference as much as possible. Set the NC with the coil waist high and with the coil parallel to the ground. The next step is to set the Threshold so the background sound is just barely audible. Too loud and you will mask out targets. Too faint and you won't hear those deep ones! So I'd recommend setting it so it is clearly audible and then lowering it a digit or two. Remember, just barely audible. Next I would lower the Sensitivity down to around 5. Lowering the Sensitivity probably won't be necessary after you've become more familiar with the detector. But for now, let's lower it so we know which tone it is we are hearing. Now, with all those formalities out of the way, it is time to properly set your GB. Hold the coil parallel to the ground, about 5 inches above the surface. Press the Ground Balance pad and slowly bob the coil down toward the ground, being careful to not actually touch the ground. Now bring it back up to the 5 inch level. Continue this up and down motion while listening for the changing tone. (bobbing speed can be 1/2 second each direction) If the tone gets to be a higher pitch when you are lowering the coil toward the ground, press the - key pad. If, on the other hand, the tone gets to be lower in pitch as the coil nears the ground, you need to press the + key pad. The objective is to make that GB tone vary as little as possible while you are bobbing the coil. I refer to that as blending the tone. Not particularly high or low on the downsweep. But a blending of both tones. Now, when you have the GB adjusted to that point, you can get into the menu mode and raise that sensitivity back up to a point that it just about chatters when you sweep the ground. Having a properly adjusted NC, Threshold, GB and Sensitivity are all key to maximizing your hunt. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. HH Randy

I have the Xterra 305 great machine love it.What werks well for me is i turn up sensitivity up to 9 almost max in manny parks. Then leave threshold to factory number. I like mode 1 wich is coin mode. Then to set ground balance momentaraly set to all metal hit ground balance and move up and down till quietest tone is heard where its almost silent and then go back to mode 1. Works great at this setiing good luck

As I know the original XT-70 was a big jump over the XT-30 and imagine same hold thru in the newer models. Again Minelab gives us a choice depending on our preferences and whatever works...Would like to see a fair comparison between the old XT-70 and the new XT-705....
